“When the cold winter winds blow, and silence enfolds around you,
will you consider the state of the world around you?
When you gaze at the barren trees, and look out upon the horizon,
will the silence form images from your childhood memories,
or will they echo something of what is to come?

What are your thoughts when you walk the streets, and the pathways
of the cities?  Do you consider the homeless and the less fortunate,
or do you think about your next meal, and how to make improvements
to your homes?

Are you content in your walls of stone and wood?  Where did your
childhood friends go to?  But you hear the sounds of young children
again outside your window.  Once again, you are reminded of the circle
of life that goes on around you.

The tinsel and the paper remind you of times gone by, and you hear
the sounds of the ancient music that once was played.  The hills and
the trees stand as monuments to their tune.

But it is a sad refrain; it is a melody of what could be, not of what is.
Where is the hope of mankind to be found?  Knowledge has increased
but wisdom has diminished.  For the birth of science has not solved
the world’s problems, nor has peace come to mankind.

The baby that came to be king still lives, and will return again.  He comes
to offer his gift to all, and yet to some it is thrown away, and forgotten
as some childhood fantasy.

Some sit transfixed and meditate upon the timeless candle, and think
that peace will come, and yet it is just a futile exercise of thought.
The ancient books of learned men and sages surely has the answer,
some would say.  And yet, they leave us hollow inside, and life is far
from it.

The world goes on as it always has, with wars and bigotry and greed.
The great cloud of witnesses watches and waits, and wonders what
we will do.

The actors upon the world’s stage act out their play.  The five-o`-clock
news tells us what we should hear, and yet, what is truly the news?
The conspirators grab the latest tidbit of distortion, and fling it
to us as truth.  Surely, there are giants among us, and an alien
sits at our table unnoticed.

Find the One that is still speaking.  He is near and is among us.
He still speaks, and is not to be found just in the cold stones of our
churches and temples.

There is a sound that still is heard.  It comes upon the wind, and
enters our hearts.  And the trees bend, and clouds seem to
echo that truth.  The answer comes, and it is spread among us.”
