“Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised,” Proverbs 31:30.
“Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 4but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price,” 1 Peter 3:3-4 KJV.
“Don’t try to make yourselves beautiful on the outside, with stylish hair or by wearing gold jewelry or fine clothes. 4 Instead, make yourselves beautiful on the inside, in your hearts, with the enduring quality of a gentle, peaceful spirit. This type of beauty is very precious in God’s eyes,” 1 Peter 3:3-4 CEB.
Often as I watch YouTube videos, Jesus would show people taken to hell and say they are there because:
- They colored their hair, or
- They wore jewelry or nail polish,
- Or they dressed immodestly, or
- Dressed in clothing of the opposite sex.
I was puzzled, especially when I was shown demons taking people to hell and saying that these people belonged to Satan, because they had dyed their hair, or wore nail polish, or wore men’s clothing, or earrings or other things that modified their appearance.
I puzzled over this, and then I was reminded of the above verses, especially the ones in 1 Peter 3.
We are supposed to be different to the world of Satan, so should not be using his things to show who we are, which only dresses up the physical.
God always deals with us in spiritual ways and so expects us to show we are Christians by our lifestyles — which includes what we wear.
So if you copy how the world makes itself appear, you are no different to them or their values; you do not show how Jesus affects the person and changes them, from how the world thinks or does; you do not represent Jesus.
The main difference between Christians and non-Christians is supposedly their character and their inward beauty. So if you wear what the world does and have the same character or values as the world, how can you declare Jesus?
You may mock those in clerical garb as being old fashioned, but at least the world knows they belong to Jesus.
Only as you show God’s inward character changes in you, by an outward expression of these, and dress differently to the world to show you are not of it, will you have a chance to tell people what Jesus has done for you!
In 1 Peter 3:4 we are told that God values it, and this is because it is an act of loving obedience to Him that allows Him to use you for His purpose, which is to bring as many into The Kingdom of God that He can.
When you wear something, ask The Holy Spirit if you are to wear it, so it brings notice to what Jesus has done in your life, and not what Satan does in the life of a person.
