Envy & Jealousy Among Church Musicians & Singers — 4 Comments

  1. It is true that we are lacking in the music department at church. We have exalted a skill, musicality whether singing or playing an instrument to a gift, when it is a skill. Anyone can become a much better singer or musician if taught well. Voices are instruments, yes some can pick up a guitar and eventually produce good sound, but they have to work it. Same with the voice, except you constantly have your voice with you. Songwriting is a skill. Like writing a sermon or a story, there are styles, templates and the language itself to learn and implement in order to produce something others appreciate. I dont think style is as important as we like to think it is. Otherwise the notes, tempo, and specific instrumentation with their parts would be preserved alongside the words in the psalms.

Ultimately, the anointing comes from God’s approval of you. You cannot pray and hope God anoints you anymore than any of Davids brothers could pray and hope that Samuel would anoint them king of Israel.

You want better songs and artists, invest into the skill of being a musician in people. Exhort people to play skillfully before the Lord.

You want the anointing? Go do what God wants you to do.
Want to know what God wants you to do? Go ask Him.

  2. I’m glad you dared to stir this pot. I’m a musician myself and I may as well be quiet rather not truly worship my Father God. HE IS the music and the reason for singing and praise.
