“Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the heart of man, All that God has prepared for those who love Him,”   1 Corinthians 2:9.

“Mind,” in the Greek means: thinking, understanding, insight, ‘to open the mind.’

“Thought,” means: to think, reason, to imagine, or meditate on.

God has told us that we have neither seen nor heard those things that He has prepared for us.  But then He begins to tell us that however, these things have been revealed to us through His Spirit.

We can know these things only because they have been revealed to us through the Spirit of God and not from the natural world.  There are things that await us in the life to come, and yet, even in this life, there are things that “eye has not seen and ear has not heard.”

We are told further that no one would know the mind of Christ because no one has instructed him.  He has known these things from the beginning because He and the Father are one.  And yet, we are told that we have the mind of Christ.

It is quite obvious that we cannot know the thoughts of someone else in this life of ours, but the amazing thing is that we can know the thoughts of God!  For these thoughts are revealed to us through His Spirit.

Those very things that are considered as the deep things of God can be known by us.  He wants us to know these things, not only because we are His sons and daughters, but that we would know what drives His heart.

What an awesome thing to know that we have the mind of Christ.  And yet, what does that mean?  Does it mean that we know all of the subtle nuances of every thought that He has ever had?  Does it mean that we are aware and omniscient just as He is?

The answer to these questions is of course, no.

The prophet Isaiah tells us that our thoughts are not God’s thoughts, neither are our ways His ways,  Isaiah 55:8.

For God exists beyond the realm of this earth that we dwell in.  He is not confined to an earthly abode as we are.  He is ever-lasting.  Much of our thinking is a result of living in a world that is fallen.

We’ve all come from different types of families and backgrounds, and the relationships that we have experienced, cause us to think a certain way.  But we are told that we can still have the mind of Christ.  We are told that we can be transformed by the renewing of our minds,   (Romans 12:2).

One way we can be transformed is to think on the things that are listed in Philippians 4:8,

“Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.”

This of course, is not always an easy thing to do in a world filled with violence and hate.  And it certainly doesn’t mean that we ignore those things around us, but rather that we decide to think on things that are above, that are everlasting.

When we do these things then we are thinking as God thinks.  Then the peace of God will guard our hearts and minds.

When trouble and tribulation comes our way, what are our thoughts then?  Are we filled with peace, or does our mind fill up with anxiety, as we swirl inside ourselves, trying to figure out what to do?

Are we filled with peace when all of the money runs out, and we don’t have enough to pay our bills?  Surely, these are difficult times that many of us experience, as the oil and wine runs dry, and yet we are told, that we have the mind of Christ.

There are old willow and cottonwood trees that have stood at the banks of the rivers for well over a hundred years or more.  And the winds and the rains have come and have bent their branches, and even have broken some of them.

But, they still stand erect, ever drawing strength from the river and the sunshine above.  And so, we are like them, as we draw our strength and joy from the abiding presence of God Almighty.

“And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.  And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:   And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it,”   Matthew 7:25-27.
