It is all there for our taking: being Divinely enlightened, experiencing The Heavenly Gift, partaking of The Holy Spirit, experiencing The GOOD Word of God and The POWERS of The Age to Come, (Hebrews 6:4-5).
From my youth, for three to four decades (since becoming born-again) I have fasted both corporately and personally. But it was never an easy experience. The pangs of hunger was often overwhelming. But I trudged on, each time.
Even in my adult life, I barely managed a few days of fasting without food and water. And it always ended with my frame looking as though I had suffered a hundred years of famine.
‘How was The LORD Jesus, a fellow Man, able to do it for FORTY DAYS without food?’ I often wondered.
In the run-up to the Pentecost Prayer and Fasting currently underway, I fervently sought The LORD to be able to do it without the distractions of the pangs of hunger.
“Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart,” Jeremiah 29:12-13.
How FAITHFUL and TRUE The LORD is to His Word!
In answering my prayer, The Holy Spirit simply taught me, to fast hunger-free, by fervently commanding ghrelin (the so-called hunger hormone) not to induce hunger in my gut, in my body.
For it is written, “I discipline my body and bring it into subjection…” (1 Corinthians 9:27).
I eagerly waited for the first day of the fasting to put this new exciting revelation into practice.
Brethren, I daily pray the prayer in faith, and it has been steadfastly working in the fast!
Then, a few days ago, The Holy Spirit revealed to me that The LORD Jesus Christ did the above as a Man and was not hungry for forty days. Jesus became hungry ONLY after the fasting ended!
It is true! That’s what The Scripture says!
“…And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry,” Luke 4:2 emphasis added.
I was amazed.
There it is: Jesus became hungry only after the fasting ended. He had brought His body under subjection not to feel hungry while He was fasting. (I studied this Scripture many, many times but did not previously get this understanding).
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” Hosea 4:6.
Did Paul also fast with the above knowledge? For he did it often. He repeatedly said he was “in fastings“, “in fastings often” (2 Corinthians 6:5; 11:27).
My beloved brethren, the unprecedented season we are now going into, fasting and prayer are indispensable for victory, for amazing experiences of God, for fortitude and strength to finish the race.
Life in Christ Jesus is warfare. We are in war, not a walk in the park.
Somethings WILL NOT happen without prayer and fasting. Somethings cannot be accomplished without prayer and fasting.
As The LORD Jesus said about a healing deliverance,
“However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting,” Matthew 17:21 NKJV.
There are some deep things The Holy Spirit reveals to me, tells me only during fasting and prayer. I know this is true of some other believers now and yesteryear.
“Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul [also called Paul]. As they ministered to The LORD and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them,” Acts 13:1-2 emphasis added.
Some Spiritual endeavours and undertakings must only be carried out with prayer and fasting:
“So when they had appointed elders in every church, and prayed with fasting, they commended them to The LORD in whom they had believed,” Acts 14:23 emphasis added.
True prayer and fasting is indispensably important for us to make it in Christ Jesus VICTORIOUSLY.
I started hearing some strange alternative fasting ideas some decades ago. They say, for example, you can fast television, you can fast entertainment, etc.
This is apostate. It is heresy. It is error.
“O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth…?” Galatians 3:1.
There is no such thing in Christ as non-food fasting. Fasting in Christ Jesus is ONLY about fasting food. Nothing else. We must only fast what and how our LORD fasted, (Luke 4:2).
When you fast, the stomach, being without new food intake, makes the body light and subject to the spirit, and thus be sharply used by The Holy Spirit. This cannot be achieved otherwise.
When you truly fast, you get charged, you get endued with POWER from on High. Like Jesus, you return in The POWER of The Spirit, (Luke 4:14).
You probably watch too much television anyway and indulge in enjoying entertainment and other leisure and pleasure. Cutting back on such; abstaining from such is NOT fasting.
It is the right thing to do NORMALLY for your own spiritual good and growth — to give yourself to studying The Word of God and to prayer; to wait in the presence of The LORD Jesus.
Meditate on Him. Praise Him. Thank Him. Worship Him. And get loaded with revelations and grace for the race.
Please fast and pray. Do it like Jesus, for your own spiritual good and growth.
You can do it hunger-free like Jesus. Only believe and pray so.
Fast and pray, NOT by your might and power, but by The Holy Spirit, (Zechariah 4:6).

“The LORD Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.” 2 Timothy 4:22.
“Farewell” Acts 15:29.
~ Jacob Awagah
Jacob, an apostle of Jesus Christ by The Will of God, according to The Promise of Life which is in Christ Jesus, (2 Timothy 1:1). As John was, Jacob is the disciple whom JESUS loves, (John 13:23;19:26; 20:2; 21:7,20). And like Paul, Jacob is “the prisoner of CHRIST JESUS” (Ephesians 3:1) for His Purpose forever: to obey Him always.
“And having been perfected, He became The Author of Eternal Salvation to all who obey Him,” Hebrews 5:9.
