The roots of lust run deep and can initiate a vicious cycle of sin.  People lust for more than just sex – it’s possible to lust after titles, promotion, money, cars, clothes, spouses (and other people’s spouses), food, fame etc.

Lust is a demonically induced desire for more… and more.  This desire is seemingly quenched by the things of the world. In reality, when lustful desires are fulfilled, the desire to lust increases.  By the power of the blood of Jesus Christ, Spirit filled Christians can be set free from the captivity that lust tries to place them in.  There is a significant difference in being oppressed by the spirit of lust and operating in the spirit of lust.

Being Oppressed by the Spirit of Lust

When a person is bound by lust, it is almost impossible for them to say “no” when lust calls their name.  They also have a tendency to be spiritually drawn and sexually attracted to people in operate in the spirit of lust.  Once they have had sexual intercourse with a person who operates in the spirit of lust, a soul tie is formed that is not easily broken.

There are many people who engage in lust filled sexual activity with all members of the LGBTIA community.  This creates further confusion spiritually/emotionally/mentally because a person becomes open to the spirit of perversion.  Out of perversion flows sodomy, bestiality and lawlessness.  Lust causes its victim to be attract to things that are not of God.  Many Christians are labeling themselves “bisexual” not because they were born that way, but because lust oppressed them to the point that they found the very thing that God forbids attractive.

Many that struggle with the homosexual lifestyle are severely oppressed by the spirit of lust.  Also, Christians condone sex outside of marriage are oppressed by the spirit of lust.  Unfortunately, it’s difficult to be delivered from something that you like.  For example, if you enjoy being sodomized – you won’t be delivered from it.  If you enjoy the rush you get from sleeping with a married woman – you won’t be delivered from it.  The individual has to choose to love God more than they love participating in lustful acts that only bring temporary satisfaction.

Operating in the Spirit of Lust

When a person operates in the spirit of lust, they are a puppet master that will seduce, control and manipulate others into submitting to their will.  For example, when a person operates in a spirit of lust, they can use emails, phone calls, text messages, a comment on Facebook/ Instagram/ Twitter/ Snapchat to ensnare their victim into doing their will or having sex with them.  Usually, a person operating in the spirit of lust will attach themselves to weaker people who will easily succumb to their tactics.  They will use manipulation and control to break down the values/walls of their victims to achieve their end goal.

It is also common for people who operate in the spirit of lust to play the “victim”.  Do not be fooled by this tactic.  Once the person notices that their prey is sympathetic to their victim infused delusion, then they will manipulate their way into their lives.

Usually, those that operate in the spirit of lust only seem attractive right before they get what they want.  After an individual succumbs to lust and engages in sexual intercourse with the person operating in the spirit of lust, they feel guilty, dumb and confused.

Unfortunately, many marriages/relationships have been built on a series of lustful encounters and not a kingdom connection.  Christians must be spiritually discerning of the attributes of lust and use their God-given authority to exert dominion over that spirit.

“Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”?  But he gives more grace.  Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”  Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.  Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded,”   James 4: 5-8 ESV.

“What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?  By no means!  How can we who died to sin still live in it?  Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?  We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life,”   Romans 6:1-4 ESV.
