Natural disasters are not opportunities to fabricate ways to explain them away or blame on a particular sin, or yell, “IT’S GOD’S JUDGEMENT” when they happen!

Actually, they are opportunities to clearly learn about what really matters when they strike.

What matters?

People matter.

If a free floating ember from my neighbor’s chimney starts a fire in my roof and spreads throughout my neighborhood, does that mean God is judging and punishing the neighborhood in order to get them to repent and get it all right with Him?

RIDICULOUS!

God is not a malignant bully!

So stop listening to the false “God told me it’s judgement” rhetoric.  They lie.  They pompously blabber false prophecy and conjecture.

God ALONE judges hearts, actions, and offers the individual convictions for ALL sins to be redemptively wiped clean and given a hope for merciful help.

He doesn’t drive infernos over people to make them move into revival or a fresh move of His Spirit.

That is NOT love from above.

He is ACTUALLY a place of refuge, THE refuge, when disasters surround us.

“Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his purposes for me,”   Psalm 57:1-2.

God does have a plan through all this suffering we are seeing through horrific fires burning in the West and in Europe.

When there are disasters, that plan includes us.  These situations tell us as much about who we are as they do about who God is.

It frees us from the lies we tell ourselves about being in control.  It frees us from the routines that we mistake for our identities like our careers, achievements, and claims to knowing how “supposedly” God is involved somehow in the calamity.

These tragic situations remind us that we can change, when we all come together.  From loss and disruption, God brings order through love, and folks, God has been doing this since the beginning of creation.

So while we’re in the middle of the earth groaning in such horrible loss and sorrow, let’s remember that disaster doesn’t have the last word.

Fire Storms and flooding will pass.  Cities will be rebuilt.  And love cannot be destroyed, so let’s respond wisely and with humility when it really counts.

STOP……  with the prophetic false starts, trying to be the first and fastest horse out of the chute with an immature view and egocentric need to feel you must speak for God during calamities!

Shut up, grab a shovel, start helping with digging people out of the ashes of loss of property and trauma, and be the Voice that speaks Hope.

By the way…  if you feel like shooting at this messenger, carefully check your heart again before pulling that trigger, partner!
