“Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.  I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.  I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”   Philippians 4:11-13 KJV.

A learning curve is a theory where a persons performance to complete a task successfully, would best be seen displayed on a graph.

This graph would show that the more he practiced the task, his future performance would require less attempts and time to complete on the path to success.

So, why am I talking about this?  In Philippians 4:11 Paul is talking about how he has learned to be content.

How do you learn?

I’m sure you have heard the saying, “Practice makes perfect”.  Well, to learn to be content you will have to practice some things, and become proficient in them.

What does it mean to be content?  The amplified bible says to be content is to be satisfied to the point where you are not disturbed or disquieted no matter the circumstance or situation.

Philippians 4:7 refers to contentment as experiencing that peace that passes all understanding that keeps your hearts and minds in a tranquil state of assurance of salvation… and so fearing nothing from God.

Yes, contentment is something you have to learn how to possess . Paul tells us in verse 9 that if we practice what he is teaching and model our life on it we will have untroubled well-being.

Here is the remedy:

1. Rejoice always, always delight and be glad in him (v.4)

2. Fret not, do not be anxious about anything, but pray with Thanksgiving(v.6)

3. Think on things above not beneath, on whatever is true, honest, just, pure, lovely , of good report, and worthy of praise, (v.8) those things which you have learned and received and heard and seen in Paul.

Paul says he has learned how to live humbly in difficult circumstances and how to enjoy plenty and live in abundance, for it is Christ who strengthens and empowers him to do so.

Just like Paul, as you practice and learn to follow his word on how to be content, you too will be ready for anything and equal to anything through Christ who gives you strength!

You can do all things through Christ!
