The Sovereign Will of God
The Deeper Work Yet!

 

Things are not explained so simply and the way becomes much more complex when we begin to fully understand God’s deeper sovereign work in man.

It is not then so cut and dried as some think — a matter of choosing, working.  The Salvation work is not simple.

Suddenly things get really deep.  The deeper the work gets, when one sees and understands that God does work things in His Own Purpose even before a person is born, and He does then elect to do certain things beforehand.

How are we then to see Salvation itself?

How is God involved with man’s salvation and future?

Suddenly we see from scripture that God’s Work is pre-planned and His Work begins before men even know anything, or even are born.

Consider these verses:

“When Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac; (for the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) it was said unto her, the elder shall serve the younger.
As it is written, jacob have I loved, but esau have I hated.  What shall we say then?  Is there unrighteousness with God?  God forbid.
For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.  So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.”   Romans 9:11-16.

God chose between two babies and had plans for them before they were ever born.

As they lived inside the mother’s womb, God was making his eternal plans and he had purpose in mind for each of the babies!

One must note: Before they had a chance to do good or bad — before they chose to sin or do anything in life — God chose one over the other.

His Choice was not based upon the works of the child, but his choice was his own, and for his own purpose for the child.

This was true so that God’s elect would not be by works, but by His Will and purpose.

Well, what then would those who believe so strong that God’s Salvation depends so much upon mans works?

When they understand that God chooses, not man, and that the work was done entirely by God, then what happens then to those who preach law keeping and commands to be saved?

What happens to those who put so much emphasis upon works in remaining saved?

The question answers itself, salvation is of God and for His Purpose.  Suddenly their theories are fallen to the ground, because man’s life and future are planned by God.

I speak of the elect. They are the deeper work yet.

The Scriptures above say:

“The elder shall serve the younger.  As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.”   Romans 9:13.

In other words, the baby which was born first — who would automatically be firstborn and the main inheritor of The Father’s blessing — would suddenly be the one serving his brother which was born second.

It was turned around by God.  No man had anything to say about it.  God did the choosing, and it was for God’s Purpose in the children.

The passages go on to say that God loved one and hated the other.  The word ‘hate’ does not imply that God actually hated the child as we think of hatred, but that He did simply choose against Him in Purpose.

Note: The question then is: Is there unrighteousness with God seeing that a man is not judged or chosen, by what He does or doesn’t do?

Many today say that God would be unrighteous to accept a person who has sin in his life.  How could that be true when the Scripture talks of one who sins as accepted purely by God?

If you will finish studying this story unfolding about two real bible men: Esau and Jacob, you will find that Jacob was a very contending man.

He did steal his brothers birthright — because he himself was considered second and not first — and he did lie and deceive his own earthly father who was blind and could not see he was not Esau.  Jacob was a man of much sin and choices.

Jacob had such a bad reputation with is own brother Esau that he had to flee away and live in another place for years causing his brother to hate him and want to kill him!  Yet God chose him as the elect over his brother!

The Scriptures even goes on to say that God will have mercy upon whom he will and he will and compassion upon whom he will, so that it will not be given [mercy or even compassion] because of works, but by his sovereign choice.

Conclusion:

Before you overlook that God is sovereign in choosing men and blessing them, be sure to know that God is The Author and The Finisher of His Will, and that Salvation is not of man.

Be careful not to put your idea of salvation into such a shallow explanation.  Salvation is a very deep and even deeper teaching of The Word of God.

Even when one considers Salvation now….. The Scriptures tell us in:

“No man can come to me, except the father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
It is written in the prophets, and they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the father, cometh unto me.
Not that any man hath seen the father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the father.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”    John 6:44-47.

All must be drawn by the holy spirit to even be saved, and then all must even be taught of God to be saved before they can even come in to The Father.  The all who come will be given eternal life.  Then and only then will they fully grow up into the understanding that….

Salvation is of The LORD and not of man…..

It is God’s work and men cannot even begin to do that work.  God must be in the work from the beginning to the end.

I leave you with these further scriptures to consider:

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:  Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, who by Him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.”   1 Peter 1:18-21.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
He that spared not his own son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.”   Romans 8:28-33.
