We are told that music can calm the savage breast and yet I believe that a particular kind can usher in the prophetic flow into the hearts of His People.

David found solace in playing the harp, and in God’s presence, the poetic streams of the psalms would come forth.

I relish those times, more than any other thing in this universe.  And yet of course we all need those times of solace amid this world with all of its noise and clamor.

I find that not only a quiet place is needed, but that a certain type of music can also enable the prophetic word to come forth.

There is something about the ancient music of the Middle East that stirs within me.  There is a timeless tone to the melodies of the lands that surrounded the birth of the Messiah.

Of course not all of it honors or is probably reverential to Him, and yet there is a stirring deep within me.

I am not especially drawn to the old hymns that many sing in the churches today, and yet I know that they honor God and one can certainly praise Him when they are sung.

I find that anytime that I sense that the Holy Spirit will speak to Me, it is best done in the early morning hours in quietness and solitude.

There is something very instinctive about music itself that can stir the gifts within us.  Of course there is music that can stir other things as well that are not beneficial to approaching the throne of God.  But that is something for another discussion and time.

We all approach the throne of God in different ways, and yet, I have found through the years, that there is something about music that can and does, usher in the presence of God, and the peace of His Spirit.

It needs to be the type of song that would enable one to meditate upon His Word, and to seek Him in Spirit and in Truth.  But without music, the life around us can dry up and become like a desert.

Much has been said throughout the years about music, with some of it being dark and deadly, while others yet, can glimmer with the light of the Son.

“Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.  Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.  Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.  Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.  Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.  Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord.  Praise ye the Lord,”   Psalm 150:1-6.

We all need to find comfort and peace in this world.  There is so much noise and stress around us daily, and if one doesn’t stop and find moments of time, to just slow everything down, they could literally go crazy.

I believe that God created in us with the capacity to find beauty not only in the world around us, but in the rhythms of music and poetic speech.

When Saul was still king, he had an evil spirit that would come upon him, and torment him.

He found out about a young man by the name of David, who would play his harp.

The king asked the young man to come to him, and he would play melodies that would soothe the king.

“Whenever God’s spirit came to Saul, David took the lyre and strummed a tune. Saul got relief from his terror and felt better, and the evil spirit left him,”   1 Samuel 16:23.

Find those times and places where you can seek Him in Spirit and in truth.  Perhaps you also will find a particular type of music that may well aid you in your search for His truth.

Allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you.  Allow the music that you choose to help usher in His words.

It will come.
