The Word of God, IF received, changes you.
Good soil bears good fruit. The Word, IF rejected or ignored also changes you. The heart becomes increasingly hard, blind and deaf.
Why is the Word so powerful?
It is powerful because it is “YOUR Word, O Lord.”
The Word is not a “noble human philosophy“. It’s not a magical , mystical, quick fix incantation.
The Word is what God says about Himself, about you, about the world you live in, about His will.
The Word reveals the Person who speaks it, a Person who tells you what you need in order to repent (hard hearts will squirm at the word repent…) and learn to trust, love and obey Him.
Christian people often misinterpret, misuse and misapply the Bible. Some use the Word in Pastoral Counseling as a kind of magic wand used like, “Take two verses and see me in the morning. Repeat this verse over and over to yourself…..”
Some teach repentance and faith in a way contrary to the Word’s teaching. The secret of the Christian life is an experience of humble and total yieldedness to The Word rightly and fairly applied, a willingness to be accountable to others when facing needed changes, whether it’s:
✔️ 1.) Insolent pride ( secular term – narcissism) (rebel at heart/hard heart/ unteachable),
“Proud,” “Haughty,” “Scoffer,” are his names,
Who acts with insolent pride, (Proverbs 21:24).
✔️ 2.) A time of weakness/weariness or adjustment needing direction, fresh perspective and encouragement)
“Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing,” (Thessalonians 5:11).
✔️ 3.) If there is absolute ignorance or no understanding about how to handle some specific situation or experience.
“The reply of Jesus was, “You are in error, through ignorance of the Scriptures and of the power of God,” (Matthew 22:29).
Counsel the Word — by David Powlison:
“We don’t FIX people……
We guide or point them to truth…… and they must choose to humble their opinions, willfulness, denial, resistance to change, and more….. to THE Anchor of Truth that will keep them throughout the storms of life.”
