“Remember the past, plan for the future, but live for today, because yesterday is gone and tomorrow may never come.”   Saint Luke.

“See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil,”   Ephesian 5:15-16.

“For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it,”   1 Peter 3:10-11.

One thing that I’ve found myself doing a LOT of over the years, is “living in the future.”

I believe the reason for this is because most of the prophetic words I have received, concern the future.

The Holy Spirit addresses concerns, warnings, and events that typically involve a future setting, and while this is good to be prepared and to be warned about them, one can then very easily not regard what is happening around them in the present tense.

Much of what I have received about the future is colored with dark forebodings.  Certainly our world is racing towards judgment and each page that has been written down in God’s holy Word will come to pass.

But if one is always looking at the world around them through these lenses then hope can become discolored and joy can be diminished.

In spite of a world that is upside down and corruption states at us each and every day, there are still good people around us.  There is life and it is to be lived and enjoyed to its fullest.

There are many books that have been written that talk about “living in the moment” and how to enjoy what is happening in that moment around us.

And certainly this is a good thing to practice and to have a mindset about.  And yet life is always moving forward; rivers flow into the sea, the seasons come and go, and a young child eventually grows up and has a family of their own.

But it seems that we’re always thinking about tomorrow.  We get out our calendars and prepare for Thanksgiving and the holiday season.  The days are marked off one by one, as the events of each day comes and goes.

But perhaps too much looking ahead can prevent a person from enjoying the company of those around us.  Suddenly and without warning, a good friend is taken ill and the time that we’ve shared with them comes to an end.

We can’t hold time with our hands but we can certainly slow down enough to catch the smile of someone we meet.  We can laugh and we can cry and live in the moment while at the same considering tomorrow.

But while our gaze is always upon tomorrow, the friendship and companionship of others can easily take second place.

Planning for tomorrow and the days ahead is a good thing, but those days that are marked off on the calendar can easily just become words and times upon our schedules.

People are much more than the events to fill up a page.  Soon enough those people become memories and that is all that is left to us.

I guess what I’m really saying here is that I realize that my mindset may need an adjustment.  The clock needs to be reset and the pendulum needs to swing a little slower.
