What does Grieve mean?

To grieve according to Webster’s dictionary means to make sad, disappoint, to cause pain, distress, hurt, or to wound.

Many times we say and do things without so much as to a thought of who we are hurting when we speak, say and or act a certain way in the body of Christ, but God wants the church to know that our actions have consequences.  Especially, when who we are grieving is The Holy Ghost!

What we need to know about The Holy Spirit is that He was sent especially by the Father.  Jesus spoke of The Holy Spirit how that He would comfort His followers before He was crucified by saying, “But the Helper, The Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will {teach you all things and bring to your remembrance} all that I have said to you”  (John 14:26); and, “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another {advocate} to help you and be with you forever” (John 14:16).

Jesus’ promise was fulfilled in Acts 2, when The Holy Spirit in-dwelled and empowered the disciples in Jerusalem.  However; so many have begun to take The Holy Spirit for granted by saying, and doing things that are offensive to Him!

In the Old Testament, The Holy Spirit would come and go like He did when He came upon Samson to defeat the Philistines and after God’s work had been accomplished on a specific occasion, or when people began to disobey The LORD, the Spirit would depart.  Just as He departed from Saul (1 Samuel 16:14).

He departed from Samson (Judges 16:20).  His filling, empowering presence was not permanent in any individual at that time; rather, the Spirit “rested on” or “came upon” individuals who had a divine task to accomplish.

God worked differently with humanity before the coming of His Son, Jesus (John 3:16–18).  When God had an earthly temple, that was the place where His Spirit dwelt among His people (Exodus 25:8; 2 Chronicles 7:16).

However; when Jesus died, the veil in the temple was torn in two (Mark 15:38).  God ushered in a new “temple” for His Spirit — the body and soul of every believer who receives Jesus as Lord and Savior (John 1:12; Romans 10:9–10).

Many who have grieved The Holy Spirit need to know that when they sin today The Holy Ghost will also leave them today as it did Samson when he continued to sin if they continue to sin and refuse to repent.

For, what?  “Know ye not that your body is the temple of The Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?”  (1 Corinthians 6:19)

“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are,”  (1 Corinthians 3:16-17).

Grace and mercy are apart of God’s divine character and God’s doors are always open unto those for whom need the opportunity to repent but should we as Christians begin to take advantage of His Grace know this God’s infinite love can swiftly be turned from grace unto either chastisement or a rod of judgment to turn His people back to the heart of a loving Father.

Because The Holy Ghost dwells in us, The Holy Spirit helps us to pray (Romans 8:26), and also comforts us (Psalm 34:18; 2 Corinthians 1:4) we must never take Him for granted.

And, because He gives us words to say when we speak on His behalf (Luke 12:12) we must always be looking with expectations to hear what He has to say to us on a daily basis.

The Holy Spirit is everywhere that believers go, because He is in dwelling.  That’s one reason Christians must remain aware of their actions and attitudes.

Because He lives in us, we are warned not to grieve or quench Him (Ephesians 4:30; 1 Thessalonians 5:19).

We take Him with us wherever we go, and He is a part of everything we are doing.  And, as disciples or those in ministry we are in a covenant binding relationship with Him to yield to His will when asked of Him.

And, because we do we seek to develop a healthy fear of The LORD when we live with the continual awareness that The Holy Spirit is watching and evaluating everything we think, say, and do  (Job 28:28; Proverbs 9:10; 16:6).

So, let us as believers watch what we say, pray and do in this season that we will be careful how we treat one another and grieve not The Holy Ghost as the night approaches and day light shines upon us.

Knowing that the The Holy Ghost is not an “it or thing that is speaking to you, but a He!”  A comforter, a guide to lead and guide you in all spirit and in truth, he is an advocate and most of all when you don’t know what to say he will give you what to say and how to say it when you need Him the most!

God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believe in Him shall not perish but have ever lasting life.

For He came not to condemn the world but that the world through Him might receive everlasting life!

In other words, He made a personal sacrifice for both me and you and it is both offensive and disrespectful when we speak evil of one another out of an evil heart (bitterness) and not only disrespecting one another but The Holy Ghost that dwells on the inside of each of God’s children.

And they that do The LORD said to me are like unto Judas who placed his hand in the dish to betray Christ and they that do shall be in danger of not only hell fire but of blaspheming The Holy Ghost!

For, Jesus said unto Judas and His disciples, “It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he offend one of these little ones!”

The Triune God and His Children are so precious to The LORD, woe unto their enemies in this season!

“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.  And grieve not The Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.  Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you,”   Ephesians 4:29-32 KJV.
