Like a Tap of Living Water
Nothing . . . Nothing . . . Still nothing . . . Then . . .
I spend quite a lot of time just waiting on The LORD.
My mentor used to tell me that God is always ready to speak to us, in fact, He’s rather like a tap — turn it on and water rushes out.
With God, tune in and turn Him on and Living Water rushes out!
However, I’ve learnt these past recent years that I can know when God is about to speak to me, yet He stills me first — makes me wait on Him, on His timing.
Wait . . . Nothing . . . Nothing . . . Still nothing . . . Then . . .
So it is today.
I just heard the old children’s nursery rhyme, “The Grand Old Duke of York” who marched his 10,000 men up the hill, then down again.
I sensed an Army marching, but to a different drum beat.
This was an urgent beat, but not so urgent as to make the Army run. Then I heard buglers sounding an order and the Army started to manoeuvre into a new formation — the famous wedge battle formation.
Suddenly, I was outside Jericho’s city walls. I saw the priests leading the way — singing and worshipping, with trumpets following, and the vast army — 10,000 men — marching to the sound of the drum.
It was colourful, noisy, almost celebratory in style. An excited expectation filled the air.
This Army KNEW that victory was already theirs. Of course we know the end of that story and this was no different — up to a point!
When the walls came down, this Army rushed in to protect the people of the city! They fed the people and kept them safe!
I asked The LORD, “Why this difference, LORD?”
He said, “This coming Move will see many, many walls having to come down.
When they do fall, they will reveal many very vulnerable people who will need your protection and prayers.
You will need to gain their confidence and trust.
You will need to feed them, build them up, disciple them.
It will not be easy, but I will be with you, by My Spirit, and I will lead you — show you the way!
Yes, Victory is yours but that’s when the hard work of protecting them from the enemy, begins.
The enemy will fight for them because he wants them back, to take them where he is going.
But you will protect them — even at your own expense!”
I understood this last bit to imply persecution and indeed prosecution, prison, and even death.
The LORD pointed me to the words of scripture in Revelation 12,
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives even unto death.” Revelation 12:11.
This was a picture of this present time move of The Holy Spirit on The Church — and then into the world.
It is a reminder that there are still battles to be won, ‘prisoners’ to be taken and cared for, and an enemy who will never surrender but will fight back in any way he can do so.
Yes we will see wave after wave after wave, but that means also that we will have battle after battle after battle!
This year, and later, is going to be an intense but joyful ride.
Do not underestimate the enemy’s spite and anger. He will pursue you inside and outside the law. He will pull every dirty trick he can to stop you!
But Jesus knows his moves before he makes them and He will give us the Victories!
