We Pray to Stand in the Gap
The Ministry of Intercession
The Intercessors’ Role and Mission
To intercede means to place oneself between the person for whom one is praying and God.
He or she does not simply recite a prayer; the intercessor presents himself or herself to God on behalf of the person for whom they are praying.
In the Bible, we find the expression “to stand in the gap.”
A gap is a chasm, a crack, and that is precisely where the intercessor positions himself or herself.
Jesus was the one who stood between us and God par excellence, and Moses did the same in the desert when the people offended God, and with them many other men of God.
Let it be clear that the intercessor, whether man or woman, is not yet perfected, but recognizes that he or she is justified by the precious blood of the Lamb, and lives with a deep commitment to following the Lamb in righteousness, purity and peace.
The intercessor has no merit of his or her own but receives to themselves the covering of the Blood of Christ.
In this capacity they present sinners before the throne of God; those who lack the strength and conviction to pray and present their own case before His throne of Grace.
It may be as if the intercessor is saying,
“LORD, I know this person has made a mistake and has sinned against You, but I stand in the gap for him or her. As you look upon them may You first see me Oh Lord, and my heart open and responsive to You, covered by the Covenant Blood of the Lamb.”
“May the Blood speak Mercy over them instead of judgement.”
This is what You have ordained for Your people Holy Father, as Hebrews tells us,
“And (we have come) to Jesus, the Mediator (Go-between, Agent) of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood which speaks [of mercy], a better and nobler and more gracious message than the blood of Abel [which cried out for vengeance].” Hebrews 12:24 AMPC.
Hidden in Christ
The Ministry of intercession is a ministry of service for the people of God, but the “altar server” is most often a concealed servant who prefers to remain as such, “hidden in Christ”, serving for His purposes, and not for self-aggrandizement.
Send us Forth into Your Harvest Fields Father
Our Prayer:
Father, we entreat You, Holy God, to send as many intercessors into Your Harvest as possible, because there is an immense need for these intercessions in this Hour.
You are seeking Holy Father, such people who, in the silence of their homes, present prayers, petitions, and requests for others rather than for themselves.
As we take up our place before Your Throne of Grace, may we wish to remain as hidden servants, because today in churches we witness only a constant manifestation and parade of the human ego that destroys the Father’s Vineyard.
Father, We consecrate ourselves to You, in holiness and purity, asking for Your Holy Fire to first fall upon our hearts.
We prepare ourselves to present the needs of others before our own, because we know that our own needs will be cared for and fulfilled by You- our perfect Father and Holy God.
May we become the voice for those who lack the strength to cry out to You O Lord!
In the Name of Jesus we pray,
Amen.
The Intercessors’ Commission
“Acquaint now yourself with Him [agree with God and show yourself to be conformed to His will] and be at peace; by that [you shall prosper and great] good shall come to you.
Receive, I pray you, the law and instruction from His mouth and lay up His words in your heart.
If you return to the Almighty [and submit and humble yourself before Him], you will be built up; if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents,
If you lay gold in the dust, and the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brook [considering them of little worth],
And make the Almighty your gold and [the Lord] your precious silver treasure,
Then you will have delight in the Almighty, and you will lift up your face to God.
You will make your prayer to Him, and He will hear you, and you will pay your vows.
You shall also decide and decree a thing, and it shall be established for you; and the light [of God’s favor] shall shine upon your ways.
When they make [you] low, you will say, [There is] a lifting up; and the humble person He lifts up and saves.
He will even deliver the one [for whom you intercede] who is not innocent; yes, he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.” (Job 22:21-30 AMPC)

Dear Minister Grazia, thank you for your beautiful heart of being an intercessor. I am in agreement with you that we need more intercessaors in these difficult times. May the Lord draw as many as He can to push the darkness away and bring the harvest needed to glorify our King Jesus forever and ever.
Amen this is right on target. When we stand in the gap and intercede, I have found that we actually could take on the emotions that the person is feeling to pray against darkness and bring in light. The job of an intercessor is indeed a great important and vital calling.
