Come and Create with Me! (2/2)

Here are thoughts to go with the Word which God gave me on “Making and Creativity…”
Firstly, God is intrinsically and intensely creative
The Bible opens at Genesis with God’s Creativity, Ingenuity and Wisdom displayed in making the Universe.
The Father speaks His Word (Jesus before being born in a human body) and breathes (The Holy Spirit) life into what He makes.
So Father, Son and Holy Spirit join together in the act of Creating.
The LORD doesn’t start by explicitly mentioning He is Good, Holy, Loving, Wise, Powerful, Faithful or any of His other attributes.
He starts by telling us, “I YHWH, made the Heavens and the earth.”
He MADE them.
Right from the start, from this joyous act of making and onwards, The LORD tells us He is Creative.
We see that the whole Trinity is actively involved and in perfect union makes things.
In everything He does, God naturally displays His many attributes.
Even before we reach the points in The Bible where He explicitly tells us about Himself, those who have eyes to see can already infer His attributes by wisdom and revelation.
In the act of Creation, as we might expect, The LORD demonstrates all His attributes.
He shows He is Good, Wise, Loving etc.
He is endlessly inventive. Yet Creativity and Ingenuity are seldom included in lists of those attributes.
If we go by the principle that the first mention of any subject in the Bible is important, then we know by inference that Creativity and making things must be very important to Him.
He enjoys the process of making and the things He makes.
Every time He completes part of the process of creating the universe, He pauses to consider and sees “that it is good”. (Genesis. 1:4, 10, 12, 18, 21, 25, 31)
Secondly, all things come from The LORD
Any creative act on earth is, at some level, a worldly echo of His heavenly creative power as Maker of All Things.
God delights in creativity. Just look at His pleasure in His Creation, and His care in watching Adam naming the animals.
Creativity can be twisted to serve ourselves rather than God.
In ways that deeply dishonour God we can divert and pervert our ability to be creative, but ultimately all creativity comes from The LORD alone.
His enemies can subvert creativity but they cannot create without Him.
Thirdly, the Music I am hearing always has an emphasis on Holiness
Holiness is being sung over two secular songs.
The rain of one secular song is linked to the holiness in a worship song.
Renewal is not just coming, it is already here.
As God pours out the living waters of His Spirit on us, so we are washed of unrighteousness, made holy and conformed to Jesus’s likeness. The secular is made holy.
Holiness is not just for repentance from sin. This is where previous revivals often petered out.
As Jesus promised us, holiness must empower us beyond that. This time holiness will be the fuel for more. (See a previous HKP word for more explanation “Holiness Unto The LORD“)
Fourth, in combining secular and sacred music
In combining secular and sacred music, The LORD is saying that as humans, we routinely separate the secular from the sacred.
If all things come from a Holy God, all things can be made sacred and not secular.
We don’t need to make a distinction if He doesn’t.
Many of us find secular arts and entertainment troubling, at best.
It is easy to become too judgemental.
We certainly must be careful about what we dwell on, but The LORD is telling us that He can use and He is already using even secular artists for His glory. Pray for them!
If you have been dissuaded from taking part in secular activities or pursuing a secular career because it is too worldly, think again. Could it be your Calling?
In that secular sphere you may be the only glimpse of Jesus that people ever see.
Lay aside your preconceptions when you inquire of The LORD for guidance. You may be surprised by His answer!
Fifth, He is showing us is that we tend to think of creative people as being artists
He is showing us is that we tend to think of creative people as being artists, musicians, writers, inventors and so on.
Sometimes we refer to “creative accounting”, a sarcastic term meaning someone covering up being dishonest with money. That view is narrow and misleading.
The Bible tells us we are all made in God’s image.
We all partake of His Divine Nature.
We are all designed by Him to make things and be creative, just as He is.
If you are a child of God, you are Creative by definition.
If you have been listening to the music while reading this, you may have thought the most moving part of the Passion 2024 version of Agnus Dei is the long middle section where everyone is singing of God’s Holiness.
The worship team play in the background as a guide, but it is the voices of ordinary people pouring out their hearts to God that is most powerful.
(In April 2025 Dutch Sheets highlighted the video, saying it is the fulfillment of a 35 year old prophecy foretelling stadiums full of worship. How wonderful!)
Sixth, Nothing is too secular or too insignificant for The LORD
God can use it all. Don’t be small-minded in defining creativity in your day-to-day life.
You are designed to be creative in your use of God’s word, praying and speaking forth scripture, releasing God’s power into situations that are less than ideal, and building heavenly things here on earth.
You are designed to be creative in worship.
You are designed to be Creative in prayer.
You can be Creative in planning your to-do list.
You can be Creative in household or car maintenance.
You can be Creative in your family relationships.
You can be Creative in Church outreach.
You can be Creative in your workplace.
Many of us at present are being creative in our household budgets, making ends meet in a rapidly changing world.
We may struggle, but God gives us the strength to keep on and the creativity to find new ways of doing things.
Change for the sake of change is meaningless but doing something differently doesn’t have to be overwhelming either.
Don’t worry, I do not think God is suggesting you take up painting, tapestry, tap dancing or woodwork, if it doesn’t hold any interest for you.
But if something Creative does interest you, don’t feel that you can’t do it because you think “it isn’t Holy enough”, or it’s a waste of time.
Include God in the activity and stay aware of His Presence and His Pleasure throughout it.
Allow yourself to be Creative and think of other ways to be more Creative.
Ask for the help of The Holy Spirit to include more Creativity in your life.
Ask The LORD to make you more like Him and teach you to make things with Him.
Make it all Worship! You were born for this.
