“Forgive Them, For They Know Not What They Do!”
“Forgive Them, For They Know Not What They Do!”
“Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”
And they divided His garments and cast lots.” Luke 23:34 NKJV.
As Jesus hung on The Cross, suffering the ultimate injustice, He uttered these profound words: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
These words echo through the corridors of time, revealing a deep prophetic truth that still applies today.
Why Did Jesus Pray This Prayer?
It wasn’t because they didn’t know they were crucifying an innocent man. They knew!
But they were spiritually blind to the true magnitude of their actions. (1 Corinthians 2:8)
They were unaware of the eternal consequences, oblivious to the fact that they were fulfilling prophecy and crucifying the very Messiah they had been waiting for.
Jesus discerned that they were being used as pawns by Satan, under demonic influence, carrying out the will of the devil without understanding the spiritual implications. (2 Corinthians 4:4)
The Danger of Spiritual Blindness in Our Day
Today, the spiritual blindness that crucified Christ is still at work, causing people to:
- Mock the righteous, slander the innocent, and persecute those who speak truth not realizing they are heaping judgment upon themselves.
- Reject the message of the Cross and embrace deception, calling evil good and good evil. (Isaiah 5:20)
- Rage against God’s people, becoming willing vessels of Satan’s agenda, blind to the destruction that awaits them. (Romans 1:28-32)
But just as Yeshua stood in the gap for His persecutors, He is calling His people to do the same today.
We are to pray for those who are spiritually blind, deceived by the enemy, and unaware of the coming judgment!
“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
This is not a dismissal of their wickedness but a delaying of divine judgment, a window of mercy for repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)
Messiah was withholding immediate judgment to grant them time to turn from darkness and come to the light.
But that window of mercy is not eternal. When the opportunity for repentance closes, judgment will fall swiftly and without restraint. (Hebrews 10:26-31)
Father, forgive those who are persecuting the righteous, for they are spiritually blind.
Open their eyes to see the truth before it is too late.
May the blood of Jesus speak mercy where judgment is deserved.
Let the spirit of conviction fall upon them, and may they come to repentance before they reap what they have sown.
Beloved, do not be deceived. The time of mercy is not forever.
The day of reckoning is coming, and only those who heed the call to repent will escape the impending wrath.
