Intercession Checks and Balances
I have taught on Intercession many times and have shared several times on HKP, but today I felt it so timely to review some principles of Intercessory prayer which is different than just Prayer.
Also I decided to point out some check points or things we must always be aware of.
Just as Identity and knowing our Identity, who we are in Christ is important, as Intercessors who are interceding, we identify with the issue we are praying about.
So you might say, the most important thing we must know is ‘who we are’ and ‘Whose we are’ and when in prayer, ‘Who or what are we identifying in The Spirit‘ to bring to Truth, Deliverance or Salvation.
Identification
Identification is the first law of intercession.
We do identify in the Spirit with the person or issue we are or have been praying for, but if we take that identification into our emotions and get caught up in our feelings, we become self-focused and lose the whole purpose of the prayer assignment.
Jesus carried our sin to the Cross. We are never to take the problem and carry it.
We are to apply the finished work of the Cross to bring Freedom, Deliverance, and total Victory each and every time.
The Call of Intercession is being ‘In the gap”, a place between where things are and the way they should be.
As we take God’s stand and stand in that place, we come against the accuser of the brethren and intercede to bring the change.
We are indeed carrying out His instructions.
Intercessory Prayer is an extension of the ministry of Jesus through His body, the Church as we mediate between God and humanity for he purpose of reconciling the world to Him, or between Satan and man for the purpose of carrying out the victory of Calvary.
Checkpoint!
Take care to remember this! We must not allow our human reasoning to get in the way.
We must not jump into the flesh and try to accomplish what God ordained the spirit to do!
Stay in the spirit and follow The Holy Spirit.
According to Webster Dictionary: Intercede means to go or pass between; to act between parties to reconcile those who differ or contend; to mediate or make intercession.
Standing and Withstanding
When we are ‘Standing in the gap‘ we are also withstanding (holding out against something).
To withstand suggests force, pressure and resistance.
When we stand, we take a standing position and hold it.
When we withstand, we stand and hold out against something.
God has told us to Stand — and then Withstand — and He has made clear in His Word how to go about it.
There is no substitute for His battle strategy, so mark it down! “Our victory is in the powerful Blood of Jesus.”
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to WITHSTAND in the evil day and having done all, to STAND.. Stand therefore.” Ephesians 6:10-14.
“Now my beloved ones, I have saved these most important truths for last: be supernaturally infused with strength through your life-union with The LORD Jesus. Stand victorious with the force of his explosive power flowing in and through you.” Ephesians 6:10-17-18 TPT
Put on God’s complete set of Armor provided for us, so that you will be protected as you fight against the evil strategies of the accuser!
Your hand-to-hand combat is not with human beings, but with the highest principalities and authorities operating in rebellion under the heavenly realms.
For they are a powerful class of demon-gods and evil spirits that hold this dark world in bondage.
Because of this, you must wear all the armor that God provides so you’re protected as you confront the slanderer, for you are destined for all things and will rise victorious.
Put on Truth as a belt to strengthen you to stand in triumph.
Put on Holiness as the protective armor that covers your heart.
Stand on your feet alert, then you’ll always be ready to share the blessings of Peace.
In every battle, take Faith as your wrap-around shield, for it is able to extinguish the blazing arrows coming at you from the evil one!
Embrace the power of salvation’s full deliverance, like a helmet to protect your thoughts from lies, and take the mighty razor-sharp Spirit-sword of the spoken Word of God.
Pray passionately in The Spirit, as you constantly intercede with every form of prayer at all times.
Pray the Blessings of God upon all his believers.
Before you yield to The Spirit of Intercession, even if you are sensing a suffocation or loss of breath when your spirit feels pressed down by the fierce forces of darkness, Stop!
Ask The LORD to show you your heart to assure you are ascending with clean hands and a Pure heart, lest the enemy finds a place in you for he is the accuser of the brethren.
“Who shall ascend into the hill of The LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?
“He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully” Psalm 24:3–4
Checkpoint!
Take care not to lose hope or focus on the problem — instead of the answer!
Remember, Jesus is the Intercessor leading this prayer.
When we take over and focus on the problem, it causes us to get in the flesh and get out of the gap.
When that happens, we lose ground that we have taken.
If that happens, we must realize that decision was a result of a divided heart.
We must stay focused with a single eye, lest we lose our victory between the Glory and the Crisis.
“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. or this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:1-4 NKJV
“Most of all, I’m writing to encourage you to pray with gratitude to God. Pray for all men with all forms of prayers and requests as you intercede with intense passion. And pray for every political leader and representative, so that we would be able to live tranquil, undisturbed lives, as we worship the awe-inspiring God with pure hearts. It is pleasing to our Savior-God to pray for them. He longs for everyone to embrace his life and return to the full knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:1-4
Gift of Discernment
The Scriptures tell us that Jesus perceived the thoughts of men “in His Spirit.” If we are to move in Discernment, our view of life must be purged o human thoughts and reasoning.
You must not judge. We are to remove the pointing of the finger.
We must first find the heart of Christ.
If you have followed me at all, you have heard me share this: He spoke very clearly to me: “Sandi, you Love them, I will Judge them.”
Spiritual discernment is the Grace of God to see into the unseen.
Jesus heart is here: John 12:47 — “I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.”
Checkpoint!
Keep your Love on!
Remember there is no place for an intercessor to allow offense in their heart
Offenses will come, but we are to be ready and prepared with the girdle of Truth.
We are dressed for complete Victory as we march forward in Calvary Love!
We must remain clothed in the love of God as we stand in the gap.
The peace of God must rule our hearts.
The beginning of seeing clearly is to remove the ‘log’ out of our own eyes. (Matthew 7:3-5) i.e. that which blocks our vision of His love only. His love never fails!
God’s servant must keep a single eye, “If the eye is single, the whole body is full of light,” (Matthew 6:22)
I have had a Vision recently of many who are having ‘birth pains,’ as they are yielding to bring to birth many new things in these last days.
And that is why I felt so prompted to send this Checkpoint for Intercessors, especially those who are just learning to yield to Intercession.
May we travail to prevail unto birth as we bring forth The Father’s Heart!

Sandi, this is a keeper. Shared it and will study it afterwards. I especially like the parts identify with it, but do not carry it. It must all be turned over to the Lord afterwards. A must needed Word for the Body of Christ. Blessings, Patricia
Thanks for sharing Patricia. From my experience, there are so many misunderstandings about intercession, especially in churches. Love and blessings, Sandi
