Nature to Be Enjoyed but Not Worshiped
Many poets, artists, and a wide range of people, have always found inspiration in nature.
One can find a solitude and a sense of peace there that is not to be found in the chaos and noise of the cities. There is a timelessness and a fount of beauty that only nature offers one to find in it. And yet, even with the beauty and endurance of a tall stately tree, or a blue columbine flower, nature itself is not something to be worshiped.
In the beginning of time, God set aside a garden to be as a place of enjoyment and a home for its original dwellers; but as we know, that garden became corrupted and its first citizens were banned from it.
Never again was there a place on earth where all could dwell in peace and safety amid a bubbling brook, or beside an old oak tree.
Through the ages man has encroached upon the meadows and the forests around him. Even though we still have national parks and state forestry areas, many of them are losing some of the beauty and size that they once held.
Timbers are felled by the millions, and habitats are destroyed. And yet the resources are needed for the homes and businesses that this world requires; or so we are led to believe this to be so.
Our world continues to be bombarded by so much stress and so much violence. Wars and skirmishes continue around the globe at an alarming rate, and we can expect this to continue until the end of time, up until the return of the Rider upon the White Horse.
Only after He comes can we expect a new world and a new residence to live in that will offer a beauty and a light that will extend unto all eternity.
As I’ve said, many have found an inspiration and perhaps even a purpose or a sense of fulfillment in the beauty of nature. Some have found contentment and meaning in building a small cabin and living near a forest or a pond, away from everyone.
“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms…” ― Henry David Thoreau/
And even some religions have given nature a sense of reference equaled to only God Himself. But we are not to worship the creation, only the creator.
For nature itself is a creation wrought from the hands of the Almighty Himself. One can certainly find solace and an escape or even peace, amid a mountain stream or in a forest, but the woods themselves are just trees.
They don’t possess a spirit of their own; nor does a rose or a tulip, no matter how beautiful they are.
But the creation, nature itself, waits for the adoption of the sons of God, and for the eager return of the Lord Himself.
“For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
So even nature herself, waits upon the day that she will be delivered from the bondage of this earth. For new heavens and a new earth will come one day, and the former things will not be remembered, nor will they even come to mind,” Romans 8:19-22.
So, find peace, and find enjoyment and a sense of wonderment in nature, but know that it is itself a creation wrought by the Creator Himself, and in that sense, is not to be worshiped.

Amen!
