Why Did Jesus ‘Have to Die’?
Shortly before Jesus was to be crucified, He went into the Garden to pray taking his disciples with him part of the way.
“Jesus then went a little further and fell on His face and cried out to His Father: “Oh Father, let this cup pass from me! Never the less, let Your Will be done.”” Matthew 26:39.
He cried so hard He cried drops of blood.
When Jesus hung on that cruel Cross, He finally cried out loudly: “Oh Father, why have you forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46)
At that moment The Father turned away from looking upon Him.
It was then that Jesus has to die….
Yes, Jesus had to die…!
Why?
I will tell you the awful reason why Jesus “had to Die”.
It was because The Father knew it was impossible for men to be saved without Jesus’ death!
That is right!
It was known fact that men were too sinful to ever save themselves.
Men were too far gone to ever — in 10,000 years! — live good enough to please The Father and be accepted with Him.
Men were all sinners who were like sheep who had gone stray.
See the indictment here:
“What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; as it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: their feet are swift to shed blood: destruction and misery are in their ways: and the way of peace have they not known: there is no fear of God before their eyes.” Romans 3:9-18.
It is a sad fact that all men were such sinners that there was none of them even able to even able to understand God, nor were they even able to seek God.
It was hopeless as far as men were concerned, The Father knew it and this is exactly why Jesus had to then die.
He died to save men who would never be able to save themselves.
So Jesus went to Calvary and laid down His hands and feet and let them nail Him to The Cross.
Jesus did nothing — He only gave his life freely.
Jesus was not only tortured — He was mocked and beaten and made fun of for men — just to save them from their sins.
Yes, Jesus “Had to die”
There was no other way for lost sinners to ever be forgiven and saved from the power of sin.
Now the sadist fact of all is that yet there are men who think somehow they can yet do something to save themselves.
How much further can a man go than to somehow think that he must help Jesus out and do something to be saved, or yet to remain saved?
No sinners cannot save themselves, they are too far gone in sin to ever recover!
Conclusion:
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, laid down His Life for sinners, because there was no other way for men to be saved, forgive, and accepted before The LORD.
Scriptures to consider:
“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” 1 John 3:1-2.
“For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.” Romans 5:6-11.
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6.
And last but not least……….
“He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and The LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
Yet it pleased The LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of The LORD shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.” Isaiah53:3-12.
