Christian Dreams — What Are They?
Christian Dreams — What are they? Are they different from other dreams?
We are sharing the principles of Christian Dreaming. Foundation for a Believers dreams — and it’s New Testament Biblical pattern.
Before we understand what a Christian Dreams look like, first of all, we need to have the revelation of the three dimensions of The Kingdom of God.
- First, in the Bible, The Kingdom of God is mentioned in form of types and shadows.
- Secondly, there is a life aspect of The Kingdom.
- And thirdly, the foresight aspect of The Kingdom of God.
In these levels of The Kingdom, Believers fit in somewhere.
For example, a Believer does function in a certain area based on the revelation in one of the three dimensions of The Kingdom.
Take for example in Prayer, someone can be praying in the revelation that is in the biblical shadow and types.
The fist aspect is when a Believer prays based on the types and the shadow illustrations.
Shadows are the driving forces of Religions. In this dimension, a person is religious — not Spiritual and here dreams can be crazy.
Here we find the Believers who confine their faith to a place, man or rituals.
Remember the story of the Samaritan woman. She restricted her worship, her prayer life, to a certain mountain. (John 4:1-26, Matthew 19:16-30, Mark 10:17-31, Luke 18:18-30)
You find the Believers who pray with objects, who have so much revelation on the symbols and the types and the objects that were used in the Old Testament.
A Believer praying with oil, refusing not to let go of the oil, all this is, all this work at the shadow level of things.
The purpose of the shadow was to communicate to us — not for us to apply — was to announce to us the Christ who would introduce and institute The Kingdom at His coming.
Shadows were illustrations of the future coming kingdom the substance is Christ.
In this level, a Believer will have Dreams, but these Dreams will be limited to the revelation that he has.
In this level, life and growth is rarely achieved and interpretations are distorted.
The second aspect of The Kingdom, which is in the dimension of the foresight, this is when a Believer sees The Kingdom of God as future happening, rather than something that has arrived.
The manifestation of this reality expresses when a Believer postpones the blessing to a certain period to come.
They see healing as optional now, peace is for the future, prosperity is for the future and many other inheritance as things that will happen in the “future kingdom”.
They see the impossibilities of God’s Promises happening now and ignorantly choose to postpone what they can legally access, because they see better things tied to… The future dispensation.
These are the Believers who are ‘heaven conscious’. They are looking to heaven as a solution.
So the goal for most of them, is to go to heaven. And once you have this kind of revelation, your earthly duties, your gifts and purpose will be based on this kind of enslaving revelation, whereby you, a dreamer will dream dreams that are only future-based, heavenly-based.
If they are prophets, they talk of the future Visions, what will come — but little is done for the current status of The Church.
They don’t look at the Christian growth aspect.
The third is the life dimension of The Kingdom of God is whereby a Believer has understood the now aspect of The Kingdom of God, and he positions himself for his inheritance in Christ.
The understanding here is that Christ’s death has brought us to an inheritance.
It is after the death of the testator that the will is effected. We now have access into The Throne of Grace to receive Grace and Mercy.
We are not just healed in this dimension — we have health, we are not running out of poverty — we are blessed, we prosper and In fact, in this dimension, a Believer has already received what he needs in Christ Jesus.
The goal is to appropriate these things that he has received to apply them in his or her life.
In this dimension, Dreams are centered around the growth of the Believer.
This what I want you to focus on.
In the New Testament, there are six dreams mentioned, and in these six dreams, all of them are centered around the life of Christ.
Five of these are connected to the birth of Jesus Christ, and four of them being dreams that Joseph had at the time around the birth of Jesus.
The last Dream is a dream by the Pilate’s wife that Jesus was a righteous man. (Matthew 27:19)
If we are to look at the patterns of Dreams in the New Testament, the Six Dreams provide a shape of what a Believer’s dream should look like. We get the concept from the study of these New Testament Dreams.
I hope you can get the point here, there are many types of Dreams that can be categorized.
The Dreams of calling, healing dreams, cleansing dreams — but that is a generalized categorization of dreams.
But when when we position a Believer as one who lives in the dimension of Kingdom Life, then there are Specific Dreams, there are Specific Categorization that comes with that life.
So today I want to share Three Categorizations revealed in the Dreams that surrounded the life of Jesus Christ.
If a dream doesn’t have anything to do with Christ — it is not your dream.
Christ-centred Dreams are patterns and foundation for the dream life of a Believer.
Build on this foundation — and judge all your dreams from this angle.
Key principles to Guide your dreams life.
1. Christian Dreams Are Given to Protect Your Salvation
An Angel instructs Joseph to flee to Egypt with Mary and Jesus to escape Herod (Matthew 2:13).
An Angel tells Joseph that those seeking Jesus’ life are dead and that he can return to Israel (Matthew 2:19–20).
Joseph had dreams that instructed him to consider safety for the child.
If Joseph would not have been instructed Jesus’s days would be prematurely ended before his assignment.
Christians dreams that God give to protect and preserve your salvation are cleansing dreams, they help you locate what you should give up in order to enjoy your intimate relationship with Christ.
A mature Christian dream therefore points a Believer toward:
- Greater revelation of Christ.
- The work of redemption.
- God’s purpose in Christ.
- Alignment with Kingdom realities.
- They direct you to places of growth.
- God gives you certain Words.
- Your spirit, soul and body are preserved blameless.
- Gives conditions to fulfill for your blessing.
2. To Confirm Your Identity as a Believer in Christ
Joseph’s dream confirmed Jesus was not ordinary child — but the promised Messiah.
He was conceived by The Holy Spirit.
He has spiritual identity.
Believers have the same Christ’s identity.
This identity affects where we sit. Where we stand and how we walk.
When you have a Dream, the central question becomes: “How does this Dream reveal Christ or conform me to Christ?”
These Dream reveals Christ’s DNA within you.
The New birth has given you new identity.
Boldness is your identity fear is not.
Character flows out of identity.
You act in Dreams — but did you behave like who you really are in Christ?
God has not given you the spirit of fear — but Love, Power and a sound mind.
Embrace Dreams that confirm this Identity.
You chase a thousand, your strength is like of wild ox.
The dreams from the enemy come to injure this identity.
Your Dreams can pray Christian motives.
3. Christian Dreams Align You to Your Prophetic Destiny
You already have a book written about you.
The volume of the Book is God’s purpose predetermined for you.
“Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your before one of them came to be.” Psalm 139:16.
Jesus’s parents wanted to settle in Judea, but Joseph was told in a Dream to go to Galilee instead, to a place called Nazareth — and this was to fulfill the prophecy.
“And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, “He shall be called a Nazarene.”” Matthew 2:23.
Dreams made the earlier Prophecy possible.
Joseph’s dreams were directional:
- Go to Egypt.
- Return to Israel.
- Settle in Galilee.
These Dreams did not merely predict events; they provided practical guidance for obedience.
In the life dimension of The Kingdom, dreams often
- Give divine direction.
- Bring alignment with God’s will.
- Help a Believer cooperate with God’s purpose.
- Protect a Believer from wrong decisions.
The emphasis is not information but obedience!
