Christians and Politics
If we displease God, does it matter whom we please?
If we please God, does it matter whom we displease?
~~ Leonard Revenhill
This is a subject I’ve addressed before, but which I also feel needs urgent discussion!
Christians as a group, in my view and in the view of quite a few others, have for far too long avoided politics — even to the point of not voting!
For example, recent elections have seen the Christian vote so split politically that many have buried their heads in the sand, usually whimpering something about ‘whoever we get it will be God’s will!’, while failing to ask a single question!
How would most of them know God’s will?
It’s doubtful they asked Him personally.
It’s doubtful they asked any meaningful political question of anyone.
They bumbled along, doing what they’ve always done — tried to ignore it.
They’ve even stopped voting, because neither party is showing any sign of Faith.
Alternatively, they listen to the pastor, or someone else ‘important’, and if they vote at all they vote as they are told!
Look at The Church’s deafening silence during the recent pandemic — other than actually promoting it.
Look at The Church’s silence and abject abdication of any responsibility in the present immigration crisis.
Where’s the outrage?
Where’s the protests?
Where’s the Christian pressure group shouting for the millions covered by Magna Carta?
If it came to evidence in a Court of Law, very few Christians would be found guilty of practicing Christianity!
Leonard Ravenhill once famously asked, “Is what you’re living for worth Christ dying for?”
What an incredible question. Well — is it?
Christians have got to get into politics!
- Jeremiah did and he spent time in the sewers!
- John the Baptist did and it cost him his head!
- Paul did, the apostles did — they all preached The Gospel in spite of Roman laws and edicts against them — and they all lost their lives, except John who ended up being exiled to an island after being boiled in oil!
- Jesus himself did and was crucified!
Does the modern church fear any similar reprisals in Britain, Europe, America, and many other places?
Do they fear the wrath and punishment for being classed as infidels?
The Church today largely walks in fear of just being arrested, let alone anything even remotely similar to the persecution that fell on and happened to the early Church!
God help them if persecution like that which Rupert Lowe and Tommy Robinson in England, or Enoch Burke in Ireland have suffered — plus many others less famous but just like them who have suffered for speaking out politically!
Today’s Church would have great difficulty handling it! Forget anything worse!
One thing I have learned in the last few years is the art of critical thinking.
It’s something today’s Church needs to learn too.
Do you want to lose their life’s rights — given firstly by God — and then by Magna Carta?
You know — freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom to offend(!) to name just three.
These are inalienable rights given by The LORD first then adopted by society as a whole — but now in danger of being abolished.
I support freedom of speech, to offend some maybe and for them similarly to offend me.
I can walk away — why can’t others?
I support freedom of religion, without the threat of serious punishment or coercion to change under threat of the same!
I support freedom to offend by professing my Faith publicly — you don’t have to agree. You too have a choice!
Jesus offended many people!
I support total equality under The Law.
The same Law for kings and paupers alike with no exception!
AND I support freedom of choice — period.
If it’s a bad or illegal choice then I expect to answer for that choice!
It’s time for Christians to start thinking critically.
- To find out, why?
- To examine ulterior motives!
- To reason things through, or to ask someone you trust to do so and explain it to you.
A thorny problem, but one which God will help you to answer.
Finally, a quote I found on Facebook today –
“The modern Church is terrified of offending the world.
The early Church was terrified of betraying Christ.”
Tania Shaw
I hope this has made you think a little bit more?

Chris Bennett came to salvation in 1962 but didn’t begin ministry until 2007 — a late-comer! Now mandated by The LORD to prophesy and open old wells of revival in the U.K., but especially in Wales. He has also operated Healing Rooms, and worked with deliverance teams, all with his wife, Linda. Happily now doing whatever The LORD asks of them! Founder, with wife Linda, of their ministry The Upper Room Encounter.

Nancy Henderson commented on x:
As I had my morning lemon water , I realized that everything is about to change. No matter how I vote, no matter what I say, something evil has invaded our nation, and our lives are never going to be the same. Jesus is warning us.
I have been confused by the hostility of family and friends. I look at people I have known all my life–so hate-filled that they agree with opinions they would never express as their own. I think that I may well have entered the Twilight Zone.
You can’t justify this insanity. We have become a nation that has lost its collective mind!
• If a man pretends to be a woman, you are required to pretend with him.
• Somehow it’s un-American for the census to count how many Americans are in America.
• Russians influencing our elections are bad, but illegals voting in our elections are good.
• It was cool for Joe Biden to “blackmail” the President of Ukraine, but it’s an impeachable offense if Donald Trump inquires about it.
• People who have never owned slaves should pay slavery reparations to people who have never been slaves.
• People who have never been to college should pay the debts of college students who took out huge loans for their degrees.
• Immigrants with tuberculosis and polio are welcome, but you’d better be able to prove your dog is vaccinated.
• Irish doctors and German engineers who want to immigrate to the US must go through a rigorous vetting process, but any illiterate gang-bangers who jump the southern fence are welcome.
• $5 billion for border security is too expensive, but $1.5 trillion for “free” health care is not.
More on second comment. Said it was too long.
• If you cheat to get into college you go to prison, but if you cheat to get into the country you go to college for free.
• People who say there is no such thing as gender are demanding a female President.
• We see other countries going Socialist and collapsing, but it seems like a great plan to us.
• Some people are held responsible for things that happened before they were born, and other people are not held responsible for what they are doing right now.
• Criminals are caught-and-released to hurt more people, but stopping them is bad because it’s a violation of THEIR rights.
• And pointing out all this hypocrisy somehow makes us “racists”?!
Nothing makes sense anymore, no values, no morals, no civility and people are dying of a man made virus, but it racist to refer to it as evil even though it began in our own Government!
We are clearly living in an upside down world where right is wrong and wrong is right, where moral is immoral and immoral is moral, where good is evil and evil is good, where killing murderers is wrong, but killing innocent babies is right.
Wake up America, the great unsinkable ship Titanic America has hit an iceberg, is taking on water, and is sinking fast. The choice is yours to make. What will it be? Time is short, make your choices wisely! Jesus is Coming Very Soon.
Truth. Thank you.
Amen….finally someone with the courage to post a message regarding the current state of the Christian church. I pray that many people will read your post, seek the Lord, repent and change.
Watching and praying. God bless!
Commitment: I stand up for truth and justice, for freedom, peace, and divine order. I champion everything that fosters the growth of the individual, society, or creation. I will oppose any person or system — including belief systems—that, in my view, stifles healing, growth, and development. I stand for love of God and humanity, for friendship, and for good neighborly relations. In Christ, I am free to be myself. I am free to uphold my truth whenever it seems right and important to me — even when I hold a different perspective, and even when it does not matter who is actually right. I am free to withdraw from a discussion if someone attempts to force their truth upon me or proselytize. I am prepared to face a lack of understanding or even rejection for the sake of my truth: Jesus Christ.
