Why do we PRAY? — 8 Comments

  1. The question to ask is not did Jesus lie. We know He did not. Rather how do we apply the whole council of the Word and rightly divide it. When we look at apostolic doctrine and Jesus Himself in the written Word. Well their is a lot of teaching. It is rather late and if can as the next several days are going to be extremely busy for me. I will come back and give you a list of messages from teachers that teach new testament applications on prayer. I believe I gave you several. I will try to paste several more.
This really runs into more than one teaching. As such what you sought to present well, i’ll let some other teachers address those teachings with scripture.

    • The sermon on the mount is about The Kingdom and attitudes to it.  SO he was talking about asking for the things of The Kingdom and not our life as He has just said He would provide these to so say immediately afterwards we need to ask for them is not what God would do as it would contradict himself.

As for The Lord’s Prayer, most of that was fulfilled by Calvary and all that is left is a hymn of praise to The Father.

Jesus said He would provide our needs so we do not need to ask for our physical daily bread.
We are forgiven at Calvary so we do not need to ask for that
God does not lead us in to temptation so we do not need to ask for that
God delivers us from evil in Jesus so we do not need to ask for that.

All that is left is praises to The Father

If Jesus said He would provide for our needs physically then told us to ask for them He lied but if He said we do not need to ask for our physical needs but to ask for the purposes of The Kingdom then it makes sense.

Your arguments are good as they remove problems with what I wrote or will correct any errors but do your own research and back it with scripture

      Thanks

      Neville

      • I did my homework , So google is free and so are these. Go ahead check and see if they are rightly dividing the Word.
Each as a sum will point out yes no and not now are valid answers from god concerning most anything. Each has different points to this that will lead to other doctrinal aspects.

  2. In the Lords prayer Jesus said to ask the Father for our daily bread.  That I think is a need. In another scripture he said, ask, seek and knock. We cannot stand on one scripture only.

  3. No offense intended
These messages are free on the web or where. Their are at least six types of prayer in the new testament and teachings for them all. As such, I would ask that you study this subject more..

    • I post what I said to Tyane replying to her email

      No offence is taken

In a sense I am still trying to understand prayer so interaction is welcomed

      I await your feedback

Tyane I have nothing against intercession. Do it all the time, by His grace. It just isn’t the only kind of prayer.

Me God knows our heart and mind and has promised to give us all we need so why do we need to ask Him for them?  However, I believe intercession is war against the demons attacking the people stopping them getting the answer.  After all we are told we fight ruling demons and they hinder the work of God.  If you love a person you will war for them and not just ask for their needs to be met by a God who promises to meet their needs.

Tyane There are many kinds of prayers that have validity. I thought we were to pray without ceasing.

Me Paul was speaking of the Jewish concept of prayer, that is, talking to God.  So we are always to be in communion with God.  At times we ask for our desires because He loves us.  Other times we affirm who He is by Praise, Adoration and worship.  We declare His Love through confession, not the asking of forgiveness but the admitting we have weaknesses we need help with.  And then we talk to Him as we talk to a friend and He talks back to us through The Holy Spirit or personally through our minds.

Me Prayer is either declaring who God is (praise, adoration, worship), asking for our desires (supplication), admitting we have done wrong (confession) or warring for an other (intercession or spiritual warfare on behalf of The Kingdom).  Whatever you want to call it falls into those categories.

Tyane You have not because you ask not. He wants us to ask for things. He just doesn’t want us to go on and on and on about things as if he doesn’t know about it already. He wants interaction with us. Just like we want interaction with those we love. He made it that way. In the garden we find him talking to Adam. This was not telepathic

Me We are to ask for The Things of The Kingdom.  Jesus always spoke of spiritual things and remember He said we did not need to ask for our physical things (Matt 6:32-34).

Me If we have to ask for our physical needs then Jesus lied.
