Entangled With the Wolf in Sheep Clothing!
One of the most devastating things a believer can experience is discovering that the person they believed was a God-sent spouse, was actually a tool of the enemy.
Narcissists do not always come wearing black cloaks and are obvious/y evil. Often, they arrive clothed in Scripture, fluent in “Christianese,” sitting on church pews, and raising hands in worship.
Many unsuspecting sons and daughters of God have even married such individuals, believing they were entering a covenant blessed by Heaven only to realize later they were entangled in a web of manipulation, control, and spiritual destruction.
Why would God allow this?
Sometimes, this is not about God sending them, but about Him allowing what we refuse to discern, to bring us face-to-face with the state of our spiritual sight.
In some cases, the manipulator seduces and defiles before marriage. In others, the deception is so well-crafted that the true colors only emerge after vows are made.
Scripture does not sugarcoat this reality:
“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.” 2 Corinthians 11:13–14.
“They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will recognize them.” Matthew 7:15–16.
“For the lips of a strange woman drip honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil; but in the end she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.” Proverbs 5:3–4 (this applies to both male and female deceivers)
“It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn Your statutes.” Psalm 119:71.
Sometimes the affliction opens our eyes to:
- The urgency of testing every spirit (1 John 4:1)
- The danger of rushing ahead of God’s confirmation (Proverbs 19:2)
- The cost of ignoring red flags because someone “looks” spiritual (Proverbs 14:12)
Beloved, not every ring placed on your finger comes from the hand of God — and not every “Christian marriage” is Heaven-ordained.
The enemy knows how to counterfeit covenants, using fake godliness as bait.
This is why discernment, prayer, wise counsel, and spiritual testing before marriage are not optional, they are protection.
If you have found yourself in such a covenant, know this: God is a Redeemer. What the enemy meant for evil, He can turn for good, even if it was birthed in deception.
Discern! Pray! Test! Wait! Your destiny is too costly to be tied to the wrong spirit!
Shalom
