I have heard it said many times that, “It is not how you begin that counts — but how you finish!”

It was the great Apostle Paul that once wrote:

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8.

Let us remember the Apostle Paul’s beginning. He was one who was considered to be the great enemy of The church, having gone about to put all true believers to death.

He even said of himself that:

“…. and I thank Christ Jesus our LORD, Who hath enabled me, for that He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the Grace of our LORD was exceeding abundant with Faith and Love which is in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” 1 timothy 1:12-15.

Yes, the Apostle Paul started out as Saul, and one very zealous in his religion — a blasphemer, persecutor, injurious [murder of the innocent believers].

Yet he found Grace, that changed him form this vile man to a most beloved Apostle.

No, Paul didn’t start out very well — but he finished his course with great honor. He received The Crown of Righteousness

So really, is was that Paul, once Saul, did advance in his latter life, even to winning the race or fight as he said and finished his course.

After all, were not for the wonderful Grace of our most merciful Savior, Jesus Christ, none would even finish their course with honor!

So, don’t worry about your beginning — which was so sad — but, think forward to winning the race with Honor and Glory!
