Jesus says, “An evil generation seeks for signs.”
Why is this so? Because in demanding to see “signs, wonders and miracles,” we are doing no more than pleasing and entertaining the will, desires and pleasures of our own flesh.
We are not in a position of agreement with God, where we have surrendered our will and are not in Him, needing nothing further from Him. Rather, we seek to be convinced by Him.
He’s got to do something to impress us. He’s got to perform something that pleases us. Then we will believe and serve Him. He’s got to provide for us financially in an unusually beneficial way.
He has to answer all our prayers and give us what we want. He’s got to do something that will make us believe and keep us believing. He’s got to stun us with supernatural powers so that we can stand in awe of Him and fall down at His feet and worship Him with our offers of money and sacrifices to Him.
We need to see and taste His Power and be satisfied in our senses with what we see.
“Show us a sign!”
To live, there is to live in the same state as someone going to a dog fight to see blood flow! It’s stimulating flesh! Just in another dimension and sphere. That’s why people are swept into meetings where signs, wonders and miracles are promoted.
They want to “see” God doing something that will stimulate their senses. They want to be a part of the action!
That’s also why fleshly preachers running after their own flesh and “satisfying their own belly,” go after these audiences offering them “angel feathers, gold dust, diamonds falling from the sky” and whatever else will satisfy their appetite for action in the realm of the supernatural.
Whatever will satisfy them that they have made contact with God and tasted His Power!
This is abhorrent to God and worse that an offence to His Spirit!
Jesus calls it EVIL AND WICKED!
He promises than NO SUCH SIGNS will be offered from God, except within the hearts of those who will come to salvation in His Name!
What’s the moral of this story? Is God Supernatural? Of course!
Do we believe and advocate His Power? Of course!
Is He the God of miracles? Of course!
Does He still perform miracles and manifest His Spirit in supernatural ways? Of course and let that never be forgotten that He does and will NEVER change!
But that’s not why we serve Him and that’s not what we are chasing after! That’s not what satisfies us! That’s not our desire!
Our hunger is for His Presence! Our desire is to be filled with His Love, to KNOW Him intimately and to walk in Him, as He walks in us!
To be totally and utterly emerged in Him and in His Presence! Never to be amazed by His works more than we are in His Presence!
That’s the difference!
That’s what Jesus is advocating and declaring here! It’s about walking with God in a dimension far outweighing our needs to be gratified by His deeds!
God bless you all who seek His Presence and are deeply satisfied in Him!
He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation (kind of people) asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah,” Matthew 12:39.
Selah and Amen!
