Spiritual Gameplay: Why Our Spirit Is Powerful — Part 2
Humans are made up of 3 things: body, soul, and spirit.
“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” 1 Thessalonians 5:23.
The body is physical and it is the part we can see.
The soul is our mind, will, and emotions.
And the spirit is the inner, spiritual part of us.
To say it another way: we are a spirit, we have a soul, and we live in a body.
The human spirit is holy, blameless, righteous, and has the mind of Christ. It is amazing.
Jesus restored our spirit and our spirit is really impressive. But our soul lags behind and that is why we need to renew our mind.
But let’s focus back on the human spirit and what Jesus says about it. Because the more we know who we are, the better we can operate as spiritual beings in a physical body.
Here are two more things The LORD is saying about our human spirits
1) Y our human spirit is constantly communicating with you
Jesus said: “Your spirit is not limited like your body and soul are.
Your spirit can do many amazing things. You must know this and appreciate this.”
Then I was given an example of this — preaching.
When you are speaking to others, like preaching, it is like you have two minds — because you do.
You can think two things at once while you speak — because your soul and spirit have a mind!
Once I was preaching and someone entered in through the doors in the back and I thought, “Why is John late? What is he doing… looks like he is going to sit down”.
As the words were leaving my mouth, they were completely different than the conversation I was having with myself in my mind. My mouth was talking about Jesus and my mind was thinking about John.
Here is what is happening: my soul and spirit are at work at the same time.
My mind is speaking the words I need to say (my soul).
My spirit is reading the room as I talk.
For example, my spirit may tell me to talk faster because people already understood what I said or that I need to talk slower so people can digest what is being said.
Meanwhile, the Holy Spirit is guiding me as I speak saying, “Say this or don’t say that…”
The Holy Spirit is also changing topics in my mind to guide my thoughts and drive the conversation in the way He wants it to go.
In short:
- You are able to think two things at once because of your soul and spirit.
- Your soul is being driven by your mind, will, and emotions.
- Your spirit is speaking to help guide you.
The Holy Spirit is giving you wisdom, direction, and clarity among other things.
2) Your human spirit is capable
I have heard many Christians say, “You know a plan is from The LORD because it will be impossible for you to do on your own.”
Here is what Jesus said about that: “Your spirit is not limited like your body and soul are.
Your spirit can do many amazing things. You must know this and appreciate this.
The reason why so many of My People are put into very difficult situations and assignments from God, is because their body and soul are not fit for the job, but your spirit is.
For example, if I told you to go preach in front of the President of the United States, you would most likely tell me “no”.
Your body would be nervous and your soul would have doubts about whether you could do it and do it well. But your spirit is more than able to do it and do it well.
I gave that assignment to your spirit and not to your soul.
This is why so many of My People are given tough tasks — and yes, I want you to rely on My Spirit — but I gave people those tough tasks because their spirits are able to do it.
I gave the job to your spirit, not to your soul!”
Our human spirits are capable. They are designed and destined to do the will of God.
With the power of the Holy Spirit joining forces with our human spirit, there is nothing that can stop us from fulfilling the plan God has for us as we love Him and honor Him in our journey to give Him Glory!

Wow, “I gave that assignment to your spirit and not to your soul.” So true. I normally would say something like ‘Lord, give me strength to do this, and it was done even better than I expected. I love how He put things into perspective.
Thank you, blessings.
