The Mystery of Divine Preservation
“And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat. And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again. And the angel of The LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.” 1 Kings 19:5-7.
The LORD knows when we are set to walk a path or bear a cross that can be considered “too weighty” to bear.
The Prophet Elijah lived to fight the battles of The LORD; he was setup against a people and a powerful system that was too rebellious against The LORD and His prophets.
He made a choice to stand with The LORD; and this stand He took, brought him confrontations at every turn, and with all that mattered.
Each time He chose to stand with The LORD, he gained more enemies; and his world became more unfriendly for him to live in, so much so, that he took a days journey into the wilderness.
In the wilderness, alone, tired and burned out from an unfriendly and terrorizing world, he cried out to The LORD to be called home.
Yet, in all these troubles, because of His stance and choosing to stand with God amidst the backlash it brought; He gained unprecedented friendship with God; and the admiration of Angels.
“Twice, an Angel came by his side, woke up from sleep and served him “Breakfast in Bed”; encouraging and strengthening him for all that was set ahead of him.
The Apostle John wrote something so profound to us; “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” 1 John 2:15-17.
This is the mystery of divine preservation.
“….but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever”.
It didn’t matter how unfriendly and terrorizing the world had become to Elijah; as long as he took a stand with God: he would be preserved from whatever the world throws at him.
“….all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof”.
Interestingly, regardless of how well you bow to the pressures of this world; to love and please the world, dancing to its waves; the Scripture shows there’s no guarantee in it, because it will eventually pass away.
Your walk with The LORD will put you in positions where you must take a stand at different times in your life — the stand will create a storm, and make your world hurtful, unfriendly and terrorizing to you — pressuring you to bow to it or be destroyed.
The eternal truth remains; the storm will pass away and only those who consistently take a stand to be on The LORD’s side will abide.
“Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on The LORD’S side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.” Exodus 32:26.
“Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them. For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land. And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith The LORD, to deliver thee.” Jeremiah 1:17-19.
