Stepping into a New Year has far greater implications than the simple start of one more year of life.  It represents the continuation of your walk of faith — which includes entering into all God has promised for you.  That’s the theme covered in this issue of The Teaching Legacy of Derek Prince.

In this month’s letter, entitled “The Provision Is in the Promises,” Derek masterfully spells out how we can claim our inheritance in Christ Jesus.  What is that inheritance?  Nothing less than “…all the promises of God.”  Derek focuses on 2 Corinthians 1:20 as his key verse: “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘yes’ in Christ” (NIV).  Then he makes this staggering statement:

Someone calculated that there are about 8,000 promises of God in the Bible, and they are all available to us when we need them.  This is the way I sum up our key verse, 2 Corinthians 1:20: “Every promise that fits my situation and meets my need is for me now.” 

What is our inheritance?  All the promises of God.  How many are there?  Eight thousand!  That’s roughly one promise per hour, every 24 hours, for each of the 365 days of the year.  If we would actually step into God’s promises at this rate, we may not recognize the landscape of our lives by the end of 2014.  In fact, we would have what Derek designates as “the experiential possession” of our inheritance in Christ Jesus.
