Two Gardens
In the Garden with My Beloved Savior
I remember a dear prayer sister of mine about a year or two ago, told me with greatest of respect and love, that I had chosen the harder path: to remain beside Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane….
A few days ago, I was writing only of the Garden of Eden, and then all at once I felt catapulted into the Garden of Gethsemane and I was there observing Jesus.
It was short but intense, and there I understood the parallels between the two Gardens.
Jesus is the One we must follow
I’d like to share with you something that’s made me think deeply, but above all, how much did we cost Jesus?
Jesus is the One we must imitate, and what we must imitate is His obedience to God.
It’s no coincidence that the Word says that “obedience is better than sacrifice.” (1 Samuel 15:22)
Today I was meditating on how everything began in the Garden of Eden with the fall, disobedience, and the resulting curse upon humanity.
But few people remember another garden, that of Gethsemane, where everything that happened in Eden was reversed.
Eden is where the first Adam brought sin into the world through his disobedience, while Gethsemane is where Jesus, “the last Adam,” overturned everything through His obedience.
The first Adam chose to honor his own will rather than God’s.
In Gethsemane, Jesus submitted His will entirely to the Father, proclaiming, “Not my will, but yours be done.”
In Eden, Adam gave in to temptation.
In Gethsemane, Jesus resisted temptation during an intense time of agony.
Disobedience in Eden brought sin, death, and separation from God.
Submission in Gethsemane initiated the atonement, which paved the road to true and lasting reconciliation with God.
Adam ate from a tree that brought death. In Gethsemane, Jesus prepared himself to be hanged from a tree to bring life to humanity once again.
Adam was cursed to earn his bread by the sweat of his brow.
In Gethsemane, Jesus sweat blood so bearing the burden of humanity’s sin.
Gethsemane is therefore the reversal of the events that took place in Eden, where whatever was caused by Adam was atoned and completely paid for by the death on the Cross of Jesus Christ.
Prayer
Loving and Holy Father, our hearts are broken as we allow ourselves to deeply consider our Beloved Jesus, and how He so willingly submitted Himself to Your eternal plan… unflinching…. facing an enemy who wanted to absolutely eradicate the life of our Beloved LORD in Gethsemane.
Our LORD was stoic in His resolve, persevering through to the agony of The Cross.
He could do this because of the Joy He set before Himself — to know that we would one day be reconciled back to You through this matchless sacrifice: the gift of His life for ours.
How great the cost… we cannot even comprehend….
Beloved Holy Spirit, take us deeper that we might truly consider the depth of the Fathers’ overwhelming love for us in the giving of His most Holy and precious Son.
We ask you our Heavenly Father that we might even see and feel a tiny portion of this great sacrifice…..
We are overwhelmed by Your great love in allowing this costly payment for us…..
For even in that heartbreaking Hour… our Beloved Yeshua was faithful to You and Your purposes to redeem for all eternity ALL who will receive this matchless gift.
What more can we give you our LORD, who gave all for us… than all of ourselves for you?
Oh Beloved Holy Spirit continue to draw us into the deepest devotion to our Beloved LORD Jesus until we become a mirror of His love that reflects light and goodness to the lost world that You have called us to bear witness to.
Through Jesus,
Our Eternal Savior and King,
Amen.
