Pay Close Attention to What You Are Hearing
“Pay attention to the soundscape of your life.
Pay attention to what you hear.
Pay attention to how you hear.
I waste nothing. Not one word, not one note, not one moment.
I AM the God of all things and I AM speaking to you now. Listen!”
““Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.” When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”“ Luke 8:8.
“Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.” “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.” The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.” This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.” Acts 19:13-16.
I am astonished by how *prescient some of the songs we hear actually are, with regards to our lifetimes.
*prescient -adj.1. having or showing knowledge of events before they take place. Example, “ a prescient warning.
Of course some music is ephemeral, entirely of its time, enjoyed for a short season and then easily forgotten.
But other music lasts and speaks into us, becoming part of the soundtrack of our lives, even part of our family history.
I love music but no longer listen much just now, yet of late some secular music keeps coming to mind.
“Earworms”, as we call them in English, for the persistent way they burrow into our consciousness.
I initially thought it must be part of the concerted attempts of the enemy at present to derail us from our calling, and that it was all just a nasty distraction.
After general prayer didn’t shift it, I finally (duh!) bothered to ask for insight about the particular music I was hearing in my head. I was then given insight and instruction.
A little of the music was indeed only distraction that I could disregard.
But much of the music had meaning that The LORD has been using to communicate with me.
Some of it is music I have known for years, even for decades, but it was secular. I was taught while young that secular music was not to be taken seriously or trusted.
So I shut my mind and was not open to how God was using music of all kinds, even some that are definitely not Christian, to speak His truth into my life.
Earlier this year, The LORD explained quite clearly to me that attitude was wrong. He is redeeming absolutely everything for His glory.
You can read His word in two parts here:
He has used some music to show me the death that I and others had been speaking and singing over my life.
He showed me that part of it relates directly to my calling in Him, to the particular burdens and messages that He has always intended for me to carry to the nations.
For instance, you can read about one song that He used to highlight a problem here:
God is deeply passionate about breaking people out of escapism and into His kingdom reality.
He has been giving me other insights, including showing me who I, and some others, really are in Him, and what that will mean in this present season and seasons to come.
Above all, He has been showing me more of Himself. Just how good, and wise and loving He really is.
I will have more words to bring you because of this. What the enemy meant for evil, The LORD, all along, has been using for good. He is using it to “clean house”.
Be careful, of course, but if you have been getting odd music coming to your mind, don’t just dismiss it straight away.
Be sure to ask the Holy Spirit to help you examine and question it in the light of the Word. The results may surprise you.
