A Perverted Church!

One of my writings from 15 years ago — still rather relevant and accurate even today.
The Church is waking up a bit but it’s rather like waking an old dinosaur. She’s not at her best when newly awakened and still doesn’t want to know some unpalatable facts.
A Perverted Church
Is today’s Church destitute of The Truth — Generally not universally?
Is today’s Church preaching a distorted or perverted Gospel?
Do today’s preachers twist or “spin” the Gospel (big G), into the gospel (little g), and thereby lose its power?
“I am not ashamed of the Gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.” Romans 1:16.
What Gospel is the writer speaking about here?
Why, it is the Gospel of Jesus Christ and Him crucified for our sins.
It is the Gospel of the RISEN Christ, sitting at the right hand of the Father interceding for us continually.
The trouble began when man started to either expand or contract the Gospel — that’s when it became the gospel (Large G, small g).
That was when it began to lose its power. It became the gospel of hate, or the gospel of greed, and worst of all, it became the gospel of religion.
There are Churches around today that the old Apostles would never have been able to even dream about.
Churches of 20, 30, 40, even 100 thousand souls.
How many of them preach Christ and Him crucified and risen to the exclusion of all other gospels?
I do not denigrate the preaching of teaching. Indeed, the teacher is one of the five-fold ministries of The Church outlined by Paul in his letters to The Church at Corinth.
Many Churches have wonderful teaching ministries. Yet, somehow, they seem to miss or otherwise go wide of the mark.
In Mark 16, Jesus tells His disciples,
“He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation,”” Mark 16:15.
Where did the teaching miss out by omitting preaching the Gospel?
As one 17th Century preacher put it, “Religion begat prosperity and the daughter devoured the mother.”
In our prosperity, we became smug and self-satisfied.
We became sanctimonious — that means we were proud and satisfied that we were okay with God.
That pride and satisfaction led us into omitting the Gospel from our Churches and majoring on a different gospel.
Some majored on preaching and teaching.
Some, a few, majored on healing. Some, especially today, have majored on prosperity and the so-called “replacement theology” which states that The Church is Israel and the promises given to Israel were primarily for The Church.
These last two are perhaps the greatest corporate follies The Church has ever committed.
Still more Churches preach a gospel of hatred.
Race, religion, singularity (we are the ONLY Church — all other Churches are false) or some other gospel.
Today’s Church frequently worships at the altar of religion, greed, or hatred, not the altar of god.
Hmmm – where does this leave us?
Much of The Church is now a perverted Church teaching a perverted gospel.
Instead of preaching the Gospel, they preach their latest translation of the gospel.
This is the fulfilment of 2 Timothy 4:3-4,
“For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”
All we can do is to stay alert and guard our ears from false teachers and preachers.
We need to take John 3:16 to heart.
We need to listen to, and obey 2 Chronicles 7:14,
“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
So — for the umpteenth time — it is time to Repent, and get right with God!
He’s not going to wait much longer.
Conclusion
Much of the existing Church is like this — a beautiful old shell — but very little left inside!
Built to The Glory of God — but that glory has long since departed!
A little Anointing is left but few take advantage of it!
~ Chris G. Bennett
Chris Bennett came to salvation in 1962 but didn’t begin ministry until 2007 — a late-comer! Now mandated by The LORD to prophesy and open old wells of revival in the U.K., but especially in Wales. He has also operated Healing Rooms, and worked with deliverance teams, all with his wife, Linda. Happily now doing whatever The LORD asks of them! Founder, with wife Linda, of their ministry The Upper Room Encounter.

Brother. There are still s lot of preachers preaching the unadulterated word of God.
I would know nothing amongst you, save for Jesus Christ and him crucified. There is no perverted gospel being preached here. Lets not enter into judgment. We have to be very carful. God bless
Bravo, dear Chris! And you got this 15 years ago, not sure many of us saw it that plainly, so thank you again and again for your wonderful writing but most of all for your purity of heart to paint the picture without framing it in judgement. I often sense the heartbreak of the Lord as He looks down at what we have ‘made it’ today…meaning how we create our own interpretation and call it revelation and sometimes it has so much of us, we don’t see HIM. I have been so convicted lately that I just am not sharing enough scripture when I share the prophetic. Again, if it is heartbreaking to us, can we even imagine how the one who is the living gospel feels? You are a blessing to the body of Christ and to the King of Kings, my friend. In His love, Sandi

Did you ever read this new book?
Wow, what an excellent post from 15 years ago, which describes the church of today! Mostly teaching prosperity, prosperity, prosperity and most of the books in the Bible are never taught/preached. I have to read my Bible at home and rely on the holy Spirit to teach me.
I could go on and on about my thoughts/ concerns about todays church, but I’ll just say I’m praying for repentance and change. Judgement and change is coming…..praise God!
This is very true of a number of Anglican Churches in Sydney, Australia, where newly appointed rectors ( particularly when 2 churches amalgamate) are telling parishioners who may state some disliking for the new rector’s new ideals, not to come back into their church where they have been worshipping in a church previously so devoted to praising our Lord Jesus, for 30 or more years. A heartbreaking situation – with so many churches this is occurring now!!
It’s the same here in Britain. It is indeed heartbreaking. The Anglicans, in general, have drifted far from their original, traditional base and the bishops are pushing it ever further away. I think the founding fathers of world Anglicanism would have a few questions of the current leadership!
