In this era of the Voice, we must know The Holy Spirit!

The Holy Spirit wants to be at home in you — moving through you, dwelling in you, and also moving out through you.

Penny Jackson has been on a journey to know Holy Spirit. I love her willingness to tell her story and share it with all of us — it will encourage you to get to know The Holy Spirit!

“Okay, I’m not going to lie. I feel vulnerable sharing this, but as is often the case with me, if I go through something, I’m supposed to share with others.

Typically I am not the only one who needs to hear whatever I am writing about… it’s just how He uses my gift.

Recently I have been studying the function of The Holy Spirit. I was not raised in a Church that honored Him or even mentioned Him much.

In fact, there seemed to be a fear about what He was a part of… praying in the Spirit, healings, miracles — and, of course, because of that, we seldom saw mighty moves, and if we had, they would have been considered wonderful coincidences.

Because I had not been introduced to Him and, in fact, almost cautioned from Him, I didn’t know Him well.

We can really get programmed by our surroundings, can’t we?

Some of that teaching must have still been operating in me without my realizing it.

In past years and even more in past days, I find myself looking at The Holy Spirit more and more, studying Him, so drawn to Him.

As one who lives by herself, I have often longed for someone to be in my day-to-day life to give me advice on hard decisions, someone to talk to when I felt lonely, a built-in buddy to laugh with.

I have always known The LORD was there; that much I learned growing up. But, although I didn’t fully realize it, I felt like He was “up there” and I was down here.

I talked to Him, but I still felt lonely down here.

Recently, I was reading in John about Jesus telling His disciples that they should want Him to go to the Father so that He could send back Holy Spirit.

I looked at the footnote on The Holy Spirit, using the term Paraclete, and translating it as “Comforter, Encourager, Counselor.”

My eyes were opened differently that morning, and since then, I have become so aware of Him on a “down here with me” basis.

I knew He was with me with head knowledge, but there was a revelation that morning.

Since then, I find myself aloud, “You’re my Comforter, Holy Spirit. That was a hard situation. Please comfort me.”

Before, I would have turned to a friend, but then we humans aren’t really equipped to comfort others fully, are we?

Even when we wish we could. The Holy Spirit can comfort us perfectly.

Or recently when a big decision was necessary about a house expense, as the plumber walked to his car, I said, “Well, Holy Spirit, I need Your Counsel on this. What should I do?”

Just this morning I turned to Him as Encourager, telling Him that I needed encouragement about something in my life today.

I have walked with The LORD many years.

I have turned to Him many times, and I have felt His presence often.

I have felt His love and acceptance of me.

When I have been in gatherings, I have felt the Holy Spirit move, and I have heard His Voice.

But this… this new revelation, it has been life changing.

I have longed for this for years without having words for it.

In this time when He is working so diligently with us, He gave me this revelation, and I am so grateful.

I am not alone “down here,” and I finally get it — and what a difference it is making!

HALLELUJAH! He lives in me!”
