Oh Love, That Will Not Let Me Go
An excerpt from a conversation in 2019.
“I stand amazed by the vast tide of love.
God’s Love and the love of His wonderful people.
I’ve been on an emotional roller-coaster these past days.
No fear, just wave after wave of love. Very humbling.
Everything I am, I am because of God.
Nothing I can do but trust and obey.”
The reply….
“I understand.
When the realization of The Love of God — the love of friends — the love of family suddenly becomes a reality, especially when one has been wondering if their life matters even to a handful of people, it is a most overpowering emotion.
And there is nothing on this earth that can compare to that. Nothing.”
It’s true, when the love of God, directly or through His people, first hits you, the realisation is perhaps the most powerful encounter we can ever experience this side of eternity.
I can do little but weep in His Love at the moment — but I hope I can convey a little of what it means.
It is the first time in around 60 years of following Him that this has really happened!
It is wonderful — like finding that “first love” for the first time.
Is that so dreadful to admit?
I wish everyone could realise it in all its fullness.
I am being reconciled to those I feared might be lost. Family, friends, those I don’t even know — all turning to face The LORD they’ve never known — not even wanted to know in many cases.
Oh, the pure joy of this time!
No wonder I can’t stop weeping!
His love is so unspeakable, even when ‘second hand’ as it were, through His wonderful people.
I dare not let it go now I’ve found it, because, as the song says, it’s the “Love that will not let me go!”
