I’ve been hearing a lot about the Spirit of Elijah the past few weeks and I believe that this is a timely word.

I’ve written about the prophet Elijah and his successor Elisha several times in the past but we are in a new Time, and new Season.

There is a story in the Old Testament about the prophet Elijah and his successor who became the prophet Elisha.

Elisha began his ministry as a servant to Elijah as he was in the field one day plowing with twelve yoke of oxen.

Elijah approached him and threw his mantle upon him. This was the first time that Elijah passed his mantle to Elisha.

The second time would come later for the double portion anointing when Elijah was taken up in a whirlwind.

Many of you already know this story, but I believe the same transfer of anointing that took place between Elijah and Elisha is about to occur for a new generation!

After a season in which Elisha had served Elijah, The LORD was coming to take Elijah.

He asked Elisha; What may I do for you before I’m taken away? Elisha responded; “I want a double portion of your Spirit” (anointing).

This word for Spirit in the original Hebrew context is “rûaḥ” which is breath, wind, and spirit.

It is referring to the living breath of God. Other definitions are: prophetic spirit, the Spirit of God, the third person of the triune God, The Holy Spirit, and coeternal with the Father and the Son.

Elijah replied, “If you see me when I am taken from you it shall be so.”

Elijah traveled to several towns each time asking Elisha to stay behind. But Elisha refused and insisted on remaining close to his mentor.

Then the day finally came. A chariot of fire with horses of fire suddenly appeared and separated the two of them.

Yet Elisha kept his eyes fixed on Elijah as he was taken up to heaven in a whirlwind. Elijah’s mantle fell to the ground and Elisha picked it up.

The first thing Elisha did was take the mantle, strike the Jordan River, and declare, “Where is the Lord God of Elijah?”

As soon as he struck the water it divided to the right and to the left, and Elisha crossed over on dry ground. In that moment he received the double portion.

From then on, his ministry was marked by miracles, signs and wonders. But notice that Elisha’s ministry did not began until Elijah’s ministry had fully ended.

Even after Elisha died and was buried, the anointing on his life was so strong that when a dead man’s body touched his bones in the tomb, the man revived and stood to his feet. (2 Kings 13:21)

Many of you have gone through great distress and are still mourning the loss of prophets, mentors or loved ones who have gone to be with the Lord in the past few years.

You are still looking up to heaven and wondering why Elijah was taken away. But the Lord has been showing me for some time now, that the Elisha company- those who have faithfully followed the Elijah’s who have been taken up, are about to receive a double portion of their mantle and anointing.

The prophetic sons and daughters will succeed the ministries of their spiritual mentors in the coming days.

There will be an acceleration of that same anointing that rested upon our mentors.

Their ceilings will become our floors. A fresh mantle of prophetic authority is being released right now.

Prophetic voices are being raised up across the country and around the world. They carry a new sound and a fresh word, yet, they understand the sacredness of this holy anointing.

Their ministries will be marked by signs and wonders, and miracles will flow through their hands as the anointing rests upon them and abides within them.

Just as Elijah was fed by the ravens, they will teach others how to find supernatural provision in times of famine.

They will decree a thing and it shall be established because The LORD Himself will confirm the very words He gives them to speak.

This Anointing will be so evident on their lives that it cannot be ignored, just as the sons of the prophets recognized that the Spirit of Elijah rested upon Elisha, but with this awesome power will also come great ridicule.

Scoffers will mock them, just as they jeered at Elisha saying, ‘Go on up, you baldhead!’

This was not a mere insult about his appearance, but they were mocking his anointing- daring him to ‘go up’ in the same way Elijah was taken in the whirlwind.

But once again The LORD will defend His Messengers and Prophets, They are those who know how to call down fire from heaven to destroy the works of Baal.

“Through their Declarations, they will dismantle the strategies of darkness and destroy the destructive plans of the enemy.

They will operate in divine wisdom, keen discernment and unprecedented revelation.

With The Sword of The LORD in their mouth, their faith will be tenacious and unwavering, because their faith is in Jesus alone.

They are those who follow him closely and will not deviate from the narrow path.

When the brook runs dry, The Holy Spirit will lead them providing supernatural direction.

These are those who are destined to receive a double portion anointing. Supernatural encounters and signs will follow those who believe, and many shall be used mightily in the days ahead,” says The LORD.

“Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, “My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!” So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces. He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan. Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, “Where is the LORD God of Elijah?” And when he also had struck the water, it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over.” 2 Kings 2:11-14.

“Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm,” Psalm 105:15.

“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse,” Malachi 4:4-6.
