When we first come to Jesus Christ, our souls develop certain expectations over time.

We develop these expectations, because we do not fully know The LORD and His Ways, as it takes much time to learn His Ways.

The human expectations that we establish can greatly interfere with our spiritual journey.

Unfortunately, the Charismatic Church has contributed to sowing false expectations in The Church through teaching and prophecy.

These false expectations can be extremely damaging to believers.  They are a strategy of the enemy to destroy one’s spiritual journey.

The enemy has used this weapon to sideline many believers from continuing onward toward the high calling.

It is possibly one of the most deceptive tools in his arsenal because it incorporates the things of God and has an outward appearance of godliness.

Let’s give an example before we continue.  Let’s say a younger Believer attends a Charismatic Conference in which the speaker teaches about healing.

The speaker tells The Church that it is God’s will to heal all, all of the time, and that The LORD is going to use everyone in attendance in the exact same way that He used the apostles if they will have faith and go and pray for the sick.

Let’s say the young Believer takes this to heart and expects The LORD to use him in a Healing Ministry just as is demonstrated in The Bible.

The Believer develops this expectation and then dedicates the next fifteen years of his life trying to bring it to pass.

The expectations this Believer has regarding a Healing Ministry and a Healing Anointing on his life do not come to pass.

The Believer mistakenly thought that he was operating in Faith, but he was actually functioning in a “human expectation”.

The failed human expectation then crushes the Believer when he realizes that it is not happening.

He becomes offended with The LORD, and then clouded by disappointment and discouragement.

The enemy has successfully train-wrecked this Believer’s spiritual journey.  He got the Believer to focus on a secondary spiritual thing that was not The LORD’s will for him to focus on during that part of his spiritual journey.

The enemy used the teaching of the Charismatic Church to deliver his weapon of deception into the mind of the Believer.

The High Calling

The LORD wants our primary focus to be knowing Him intimately and continually being transfigured into His Image.

He desires that we embark on an inward journey in a world full of outward things.

During this inward journey of walking with The LORD, we are changed into His likeness and nature.

When we are changed, we become clean, made ready as His Bride, and He overcomes the world through us.

When we allow The Spirit to change us into Christ’s Image, we have the promises of being before His Throne and ruling with the King, which are given in the Book of Revelation.

These are eternal and vastly more important than operating in acts of spiritual power on the earth!

I don’t mean to imply that The LORD is not going to heal people, or that He is not going to release power to perform spiritual acts of power in this life.

I am saying that the enemy will trap people in the temporal by using God’s Word.

If Satan can get The Church focused on things The LORD is not focusing on, he can utterly crush Believers when those things don’t turn out how we want them to.

The Father is not going to do whatever we want.  Jesus only did those things He saw the Father doing.

We are in error if we believe that we can pray enough and “press in” hard enough until we achieve a breakthrough so that power just starts flowing from us and revival breaks out.

Jesus, as Son of Man, focused on the internal journey with His Father.  He was tested in every way and waited for The Father to work through Him.

Jesus didn’t do a single miracle until the age of thirty, when the time came that was set by The Father.

Even then, Jesus did not do a single miracle in His own will or by His own power, but the Father working in Him did the works of power!  (John 14:10)

False Expectations of the Twelve

The Twelve Apostles believed that Jesus was going to immediately ascend to the earthly throne of the kingdom of Israel.

It was the common belief and expectation among the Jewish people that the Messiah would reestablish a kingdom like David’s, restore Israel’s independence, defeat Rome, and be a political and national deliverer.

Their false expectation was so strong that even after Jesus’ death and resurrection, they still believed He was going to restore the kingdom of Israel:

“So when they had gathered together, they began to ask him, “Lord, is this the time when you are restoring the kingdom to Israel?”    Acts 1:6 NET.

During Jesus’ ministry, the twelve witnessed all the works of power that Jesus did.  They witnessed the massive crowds that were coming to Jesus to hear the Word preached and to receive a miracle.

The Apostles felt the unstoppable momentum as the religious leaders could not prevent what was happening. In their worldview, the kingdom transition was near, and someone with that level of power would not be arrested and executed.

However, their expectations were completely false and shown to be from the human soul. Judas was the first of the twelve to fall away, because what he had expected from Jesus wasn’t happening.

Jesus wasn’t taking power in the kingdom of Israel, and the walls were closing in on them.

Judas had become frustrated and disillusioned as what he expected to happen did not.

His betrayal came from offense in his heart toward God that was causing a manifestation of anger and frustration.

If one of the twelve Apostles could turn away from The LORD, because of false human expectations in his own soul, some of us could as well.

False and failed human expectations are extremely dangerous and have the capacity to destroy a believer and cause them to fall away from The LORD.

We must take heed of the warning by The Holy Spirit.

When Hope Is Shattered

“Now that very day two of them were on their way to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking to each other about all the things that had happened. While they were talking and debating these things, Jesus himself approached and began to accompany them (but their eyes were kept from recognizing him).
Then he said to them, “What are these matters you are discussing so intently as you walk along?”
And they stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who doesn’t know the things that have happened there in these days?”
He said to them, “What things?”
“The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene,” they replied, “a man who, with his powerful deeds and words, proved to be a prophet before God and all the people; and how our chief priests and rulers handed him over to be condemned to death, and crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel.
Not only this, but it is now the third day since these things happened. Furthermore, some women of our group amazed us. They were at the tomb early this morning, and when they did not find his body, they came back and said they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. Then some of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see him.”
So he said to them, “You foolish people – how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Wasn’t it necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and enter into his glory?”“   Luke 24:13-26 NET.

We can see the shattered hope and expectations in the hearts of these two disciples after Jesus had been crucified.

They had gone from believing in Jesus as the Messiah/ Son of God to believing He was just a prophet.

They had “hoped” (expected) that He was the Messiah who would redeem or deliver Israel.

But once Israel was not delivered and Jesus was killed, they no longer believed in Him the same way.

They thought of Him as a prophet who was powerful in deeds and words.

The disciples were disillusioned.  They were confused and didn’t know how to proceed.

They built their hope on their own human expectations of how God would act and how He would use them in an earthly kingdom.

They believed that they would be great in an earthly kingdom and be in power with Jesus as He took over the earthly kingdom of Israel.

Their focus was on themselves and their own country.  Their expectation came from their limited understanding.

They were spiritual children who could not hear, understand, or interpret what the Spirit was really saying.

Jesus wasn’t ever coming to take control of one nation or kingdom.  He already had a Heavenly Kingdom.

He was coming a first time to offer eternal life to all of the people of the world in every earthly kingdom.

Now He will come a second time to rule every earthly kingdom from His Heavenly throne that will descend out of Heaven.

But because the disciples were spiritual children, they could not hear what The LORD was saying.

Their human expectations hindered them from receiving the voice of The LORD.

Since The LORD was unable to communicate the truth to them, when God’s plan happened, it crushed the disciples.

They were all at great risk of falling away.

Many in The Church are facing this exact same trial right now.

What we expected to happen in our Christian journey has not happened.

Numerous things that we have heard preached and prophesied have not come to pass.

Our hope and expectation has been shattered, because its source was from our souls or the souls of ministers.

Many are in danger right now of disappearing into the fog of disillusionment and never returning to the path of life.

Ministers spewing bad teaching have caused much of this confusion and chaos.

Great deception is sweeping The Church in this time of the arising of the Antichrist.

Satan wants to keep us from the high calling of God.  He wants us to focus on the temporal instead of the eternal.

He has introduced false teaching into The Church so that we will have false expectations and that those false expectations will destroy us.

He wants us to quit and draw back from The LORD as our hopes and expectations fall apart—and falling apart they have been.

We are now in a brutal time of testing and trials.  You have to see it with your spiritual eyes, the eyes of your heart.

You don’t need to see a vision, but you need to understand what is now happening in the spiritual realm.

The battle for the remnant church has begun.  Fighting through the disappointment of failed expectations will not be easy, even if we understand what is happening.

It’s time for us to turn to The LORD and ask for His life to come forth in us.

We should ask Him to remove the veils that we have had up which have prevented us from seeing Him clearly.

Ask Him to reveal all the human expectations and the false beliefs sown by false teaching.

Remember, just because teaching contains true elements from Scripture does not mean it is from The LORD.

The enemy uses spiritual truth from the Bible and applies it in a way that is not the Will of God for you.  That, by definition, is false teaching.

Just because there are Apostles and Prophets in the Bible doesn’t mean that you are an apostle or a prophet!

Just because Jesus walked on water doesn’t mean that it is The Father’s Will for you to walk on water!

We have to allow The LORD to bring us to spiritual maturity, so we can hear Him properly.

Then we will be able to hear what His will is for each of us individually.

We are living in a time in which the knowledge of good and evil has come to fullness.

It is being preached from the pulpits of the Charismatic Church and being presented as spiritual truth for all.

It’s now more important than ever that we hear what The Spirit is saying to The Church.

I encourage all believers to allow The LORD to shine His Light into your soul and to reveal all human expectations.

Ask Him to cleanse you of them and fill you with Himself.

He has been doing this with me as well.

We cannot allow the enemy to keep us from progressing down the path of life toward The LORD’s high calling any longer.
