Bigger Than The Book — 8 Comments

  1. Dear DR Sheltrown,

I struggle with the what God is saying here “That he is bigger than the book’, I believe for God to be just he has to be limited by what he says…

    Psalm 138:2
    King James Version
2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

I believe God is limited by what he says and his book is important, the Logos after all is the recorded REMA… Am I wrong to believe this?

    • Yes! But so too Daniel must you remember these Words: “I will work a work in your days which you would not believe, though it were told you“. And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Yet, we believe these words and have not yet seen the hidden ones.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, and by faith we understand that the other worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. Thus, even we are to rule over these, which in Pauls encounter testifies how he was caught up into Paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. But surely Jesus has said, “I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. An hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you this way, but will tell you plainly about the Father.”

      • John 21:25 (TLV)
There are also many other things that Yeshua did. If all of them were to be written one by one, I suppose that not even the world itself will have room for the books being written!

        Matthew 13:52
52 Then He said to them, “Therefore every Torah scholar discipled for the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings out of his treasure both new things and old.”

God is infinite. While we must weigh everything against His Word, not everything He will do in the days ahead are contained in His Word. The title piqued my interest in a manner similar to these comments, but I did not find anything in this post that I disagree with. This post speaks precisely to the journey the Lord has me on and I know these words to be true.

        Thank you June.

    • I agree Daniel and tried to comment so. In my experience those who do not believe in the sufficiency of scripture tend to go into heresy, false teaching and worse. I am very wary of those who say such things. God does limit himself to what is said in the Word and has revealed Himself through it. Jesus is the Living Word. I would go so far as to suggest that anyone who says they do not love the written Word, does not know Jesus?
