Some time ago now — a couple years ago — a friend on Facebook gave Celeste and I a little dog whose name is Bootsie.

I guess it is because she is black all over except her white feet. It is as if she has Boots on.

But, there was a problem with Bootsie, she was and is all traumatized in her mind. She was so terribly afraid of any loud noises, like thunder, gun shots or loud bangs.

She could not rest day or night for worrying about where sounds were coming from. She is especially afraid of firecrackers; she hides most of the time under our bed or in the dark restroom. out of sight, just shaking all over.

We feel so sorry for her and try to console her and talk to her.

We even pray over her asking The LORD to give her peace.

At times she is so very relaxed and seems so rested, then suddenly she will hear some noise outside and here we go again, just watch her run under the bed.

I really think she worries all the time about sounds she can’t identify with or that she does not understand.

She is such a good little dog with her white boots, just as cute as can be. She is a very loving friend to us both, and we just love her so, but, she is so troubled.

I think that sometime in her past she was deeply frightened and upset by someone who abused her. [You see, she was some years old before we adopted her and she has a past to remember.]

We have wondered what her past owners had done to her, or exactly what had happened that makes her so afraid and worried all the time?

Which brings me to this point I would like to make……

Bootsie is like many many people I have met, who are always afraid and worried about every sound and things they do not understand.

I think they too have been hurt sometime in their lives.

They just cannot rest, or have any peace. They are all the time running under a bed to hide, or into a dark room; they are hurting inside, because of something or someone who hurt them badly.

I have come to know that many people have been hurt badly in the past and their lives are just all messed up. They think and worry about everything, they cannot rest.

I met a dear lady friend years ago who was so terribly hurt she would not go to Church for anything!

She avoided all contact with Church, and would always say [when I would witness to her], “I just don’t want to go,” or, “I don’t need that!”

I would ask her why, and she just got a far away look in her eye and would not talk.

One day I did get her to admit something to me when she said, “I was deeply hurt in Church, and I will never go back to that Church — or any Church!”

That is all she would say, and you must know, she would turn off the conversation, walk away, and just say, “Don’t talk to me about that!”

I asked her, “About what? What happened to you?”

“Religion!” was her answer, “I just don’t want religion!”

In answer to her, I would say, “But Jesus Christ is not religion, He is The LORD and He Loves you so much. Why, He is your very best Friend!”

“No!” she said, “I just want to avoid Him, for I am hurt!” And then she would cry.

How many people do you know who have been so traumatized and hurt in life by something or someone, that they simply cannot rest?

How many people — or I might ask — are you one like that yourself?

Can you rest?

Are you at peace or are you always afraid?

Are you one who hides out scared?

Are you hurt?

If you are, then I would like to tell you this [you who are hurt and hurting, and running away]

The man and LORD Jesus Christ is calling you to come to him. He wants you to just come to Him and rest. He wants you to simply trust Him.

Jesus is not religious. He is not out to hurt anyone, and he is not to be feared. Jesus is one who will carry all your load of fears and hurts away….. Jesus is The Healer. Jesus is your closest Friend.

Jesus will set you free of fear and any hurt you cannot carry. He will lift off the heavy load of any hurt or pain.

Jesus will deliver you and you can have peace that will pass even your understanding.

Jesus Christ is your Friend.

Come to Him and just trust Him. He will set you free!

Scripture:

Jesus said: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I AM meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My Yoke is easy, and My Burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30.

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that h same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.” 1 Peter 5:7-10.
