The Lord Jesus said many things in the Sermon on the Mount which are PRINCIPALS of importance in the Kingdom of God. It is said that the Sermon on the Mount, (other than the Work that Jesus did to actually save us by giving His life on the Cross), were the greatest Words Jesus ever spoke and gave more guidance than any other one sermon He preached. Therefore, I believe it would be good to consider some teachings from the Sermon.
This following teaching is in my mind and heart, and one which I believe IF ALL WOULD STUDY AND HEED… they would be greatly blessed. Here is the verse:
Luke 6:38 “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give unto your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you.”
To me when I read this verse I see that it is in many ways like another verse that say: Whatsoever you sow, that shall you reap. It is saying, that IN THE DIRECT MEASURE YOU GIVE, THAT IS WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE. In other words if you do not Give, then, you will not Receive anything. If you give a little, you will receive Little. If you give a lot you will receive a Lot.
I know that there are many ways to give, but I believe this is talking about an ATTITUDE about giving. If we have an attitude problem when it comes to giving, we will reap LACK because of that bad attitude. I think that many are thinking bad thoughts about giving money. It really shows up here on Facebook, and I have seen it for many years service as a pastor. I notice it when I post any word about giving or money in the number of Like Clicks on that word and the number of comments I receive. I can post another word about almost any subject and get many clicks on the Like button and good comments, but the moment I mention money there is a strange silence. I think this indicates a problem. Please do not be offended by this but consider with me this teaching of Jesus and ask yourself this Question: Is this the reason we hear so many saying they are experiencing major problems in their lives at the moment?
Many here have left churches hurt and dissatisfied, saying that they needed to leave bad teachings, etc. Although this is true, we should not stop going to a Church, or throw away the Truth of Giving. We should be looking to the Lord to help us live the truth and keep his teachings. In Church the teaching on Giving was taught every time the plate was passed. It was seen that the Church can not exist unless the people of God did actively Give to that Church. It was seen that the Pastor could not be effective without the people giving, so he could live and minister. Now that many are here and this has become their church, does the matter of giving still remain, and who passes the plate? What is this matter of Giving here on Facebook and should it be now just overlooked? I believe that the problems that would exist in a Church where the people of God left off giving, will be the same problem here as well. The people will begin to get in MEASURE BACK what they GIVE. Will any church survive without the people backing it? I think not. It is Gods plan to have the people of God Give and support the work of God with giving money.
We must draw back to the teachings of Jesus Christ on the subject of Giving. In the verse of scripture above, Jesus Said, GIVE AND IT WILL BE GIVEN. Let me quote the Amplified Version here and see if it throws any light on what He meant to teach:
“Give, and [gifts] will be given to you; good measure, pressed down shaken together, and running over will they pour into [the pouch formed by] the bosom [of your robe and used as a bag]. For with the measure you deal out [with the measure you use when you confer benefits on others], it will be measured back to you again.”
Now we see that JESUS DID TEACH THE GIVING PRINCIPAL, which says IF YOU GIVE YOU WILL RECEIVE (BE MEASURED BACK TO YOU).
Many people do not like this principal evidently, because they think that any time a minister or someone asks for an offering, they are just asking for money to fill their pockets. They say, ‘OH THEY ARE JUST ABOUT MONEY.’ Well then, they are saying that about Jesus as well because He did teach about Giving and Money. Well could it be ever… that the Minister was trying to teach this principal, that IF YOU GIVE, YOU WILL BE BLESSED IN THE GIVING, and he was misunderstood? It could be that someone wants you to be blessed with a GOOD MEASURE, PRESSED DOWN AND SHAKEN TOGETHER.
Jesus taught this principal and therefore I stand by this teaching. If I give, I can look for GIFTS to be given to me in accordance to how I gave. And I might say even more, by placing an emphasis on GOOD MEASURE, and the PRESSED DOWN and the SHAKEN TOGETHER. In other words you will really be blessed beyond what you give if the giving is done in the RIGHT SPIRIT.
Many people here (on Facebook) are crying out for money to do things. I think that this is the reason why many shy away from the subject…. because they get tired of hearing about this. But, before you tire out completely, ask yourself the question WHY IS THERE THIS PROBLEM? Instead of allowing their heart to become hardened by this matter they should pray and ask God to help them find their needs met, and, search for the reason of the lack.
TO THOSE WHO ARE CRYING OUT… HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT YOU ARE GOING ABOUT YOUR PROBLEM OF LACK OF MONEY THE WRONG WAY? I believe that IF YOU WILL FOLLOW JESUS’ ADVISE ABOVE, and will GIVE WHAT YOU HAVE AWAY.. then the MONEY WILL COME FROM GOD AS HE TOUCHES MANY TO GIVE … IN MEASURE, PRESSED DOWN AND EVEN … RUNNING OVER.
IF YOU WANT TO RECEIVE A LOT, GIVE A LOT. IF YOU NEED HELP, GIVE. Sow a SEED YOURSELF… and see the SEEDS COMING…
I hesitate to become personal here, but I will for your sakes. Celeste and I had a very difficult year in 2011 in the area of money. It was most trying to say the least, to just make it at times, BUT WE NEVER QUIT GIVING. Matter of fact, we took on the monthly support of a Pastor and his family and gave a fairly good sum of money each month to supply rent for them to have housing. It was hard at times to continue to do this, but we did it from our heart for an entire year. Well in 2012, all of a sudden, things changed for us… We received in one month all the money we needed to buy a house and completely pay for it here in Belen. It was a miracle. You must understand we were living in a 30 foot travel trailer for two years, all the time we were giving the rent money to the Pastor overseas. Now we give Glory to God, because He has given us A HOME, when we did not even have one. I say God’s promises do not fail. If you give, even if it is hard, you will reap that which you sown.
In Peru I witnessed pastors who were living in the church buildings without floors. They had dirt floors. The church buildings did not have sealed rooms and you could see the birds fly through the house. They did not have running water and the toilet stank and was filthy. The Pastors were not paid anything and were desperate. I asked the Lord about this and heard Him say, the people do not give, they are never taught that they should give, therefore they receive nothing. You should teach them Ken Dewey, how to give to receive.
Lord bless this teaching to the hearing of many and forgive many for not understanding your teaching about giving. Give this lesson and apply it to hearts and stop the problems happening to people, In Jesus Christ Name. Amen
