Not Every Worship Song is a Sweet Savour
The other day I was listening to and singing along with a song by a very popular gospel artist.
While I was there, I suddenly heard in my spirit: “Not every Worship Song is a sweet savour!”
Immediately this Scripture came to me:
“God is a Spirit: and they that Worship Him must Worship Him in Spirit and in Truth!” John 4:24.
That moment was very sobering.
It reminded me that a song may mention God, even the name of Jesus Christ, and still not be acceptable unto The Most High, if the heart, spirit, source, motive, doctrine, or lifestyle behind it is corrupt.
In Amos 5, The LORD spoke expressly:
“Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.” Amos 5:23.
Israel had religious sound, but no righteousness.
They had solemn assemblies, sacrifices, music, and outward worship, but they were still in rebellion.
There was no justice, no repentance, no true obedience.
The music continued — but The Altar was polluted.
By way of Holy displeasure, God did not call their songs worship He called them NOISE.
Jesus also said in Matthew 15 while addressing the Scribes and Pharisees regarding their hypocrisy and superficial worship ,
“This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.” Matthew 15:8.
That tells me that not everything offered is accepted, and not everything called “worship” is acceptable unto God.
He is a holy God, and He still weighs the heart behind the sound.
True Worship is not just a song that moves the emotions.
True Worship is a life laid down before God.
It is when we offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto Him, which is our reasonable service. (Romans 12:1)
So we must discern. A song can sound beautiful and still carry mixture. It can stir emotion and still carry doctrinal error, self-exaltation, sensuality, a worldly spirit, or even present another “Jesus” than the Jesus of Scripture.
Not every sound that moves man rises as a sweet savour before God.
The Father is calling us back to True Worship, Worship in Spirit, in Truth, in Holiness, in surrender, and in obedience — because popularity is not purity, and a beautiful sound is not always an acceptable sacrifice.
Shalom
