Our Father — Our Daily Bread
Too often, we Christians act on our own assumptions, making decisions in accordance with our own soulish desires, without even considering to ask Father God for His consent, guidance, or help.
Very often we don’t remember to entreat Him until we have exhausted all other avenues.
But it’s vitally important that we as His Children, come to Him first, acknowledging Him as our Good Father, earnestly seeking His counsel, and submitting every aspect of our life to Him, from the smallest issue to the greatest need.
Ask, and It Will Be Given
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:6-11 ESV.
It’s precisely in our everyday lives that we must let Him enter and live, not only in the great endeavors of our lives.
Whoever is faithful to Him in the smallest things will also be faithful to Him in the great things.
This is the hidden attitude of the consecrated heart, not one that simply pays Him “lip-service”.
He is our Father. From the moment we wake up, we commit ourself to Him and His plans for our life, asking for His wisdom, His guidance, and His interventions.
Everything we do, when yielded to Him and conceived from within Him takes on entirely different connotations, bringing forth His Kingdom, His purposes, His light and His Life!
“O LORD, in the morning You hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.
For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you.
The boastful shall not stand before your eyes…
But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love, will enter your house.
I will bow down toward your holy temple in the fear of you.
Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me…
But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you.
For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield.” Psalm 5:3-5a;7,8; 11,12 ESV.
Prayer
LORD, we offer ourselves to You fully and completely as a living sacrifice before you.
We commit the day ahead of us to You.
From sunrise to sunset, we want to give glory with our lives to You, our Father of immeasurable goodness and mercy.
Help us to hand over the reins of our lives to You, because You alone know what is good and right for each of us.
We do not rely on “chariots and horses”, but only on You.
Father, today we ask you once again to clear our hearts of every selfish, and limiting way and everything we have stored within our thoughts and ways that offends You.
Give us more of “Heaven’s eye salve” to see clearly the path that You have prepared for each of us.
Clear away the stubbornness that clings to us, causing us to deviate from Your ways…
The path becomes long and winding when we refuse to yield, still wanting to do things our own way.
Father, “pierce our ears to the door frame” so that we may voluntarily choose You and Your service.
Console and comfort us on this pilgrimage we call life… and when we stumble, we trust You to come to our aid, for only You have the right medicine for us.
To You be honor and glory forever.
through Jesus our LORD,
Amen, and Amen.
For Reference:
“Chariots and horses”
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.” Psalm 20:7.
“Heaven’s Eye-Salve”
“For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see.” Revelation 3:17-18 ESV.
