If you were invited to speak in a location you might never again visit to a group of people you would address only one time, what topic would you choose for your message? It’s interesting that in that exact situation, Derek Prince chose “Ethics of Ministry” as his theme, relating it to the need for character, humility and unity in the Body of Christ. When Derek and Ruth traveled to Cuba in December 1996, only two years before Ruth’s passing and seven years prior to his own, his subject choice for his address to Cuban leaders was the necessity of godly character. What Derek shared in Cuba is a message all of us need to hear and heed.
Not surprisingly, Derek expanded from his focus on the scriptural guidelines for godly character in Psalm 15. He went on to include his consistent emphasis on right relationships among Christians, and the need for humility and harmony. With one concise statement, Derek hit the nail on the head: “Humility is the key to unity.”
Cuba is still feeling the impact of this message, as it is presented in this month’s Teaching Legacy of Derek Prince. This fact is self-evident every time we travel to that island nation and see the effects of Derek’s timeless teachings as they spread over that oppressed country. Why not experience that same impact in your own life, allowing Derek’s timeless words to wash over you as well? We know this message can help to inspire you to a life fully committed to the Lord, His purposes and His people.
