Words Seal the Deal!
“Could I have your word on it?” “Give me your word!”
I consider how often our deep loyalties are attached to our words. Our speech matters. It matters to God and others, because it is the powerful force that moves, inspires, and creates.
Speaking, may hold a hostage or release the captive. Words make things appear and disappear. They make people well and cause them deep pain. Words incite riots and instill peace, they create division and bring unity.
Made in God’s image, we were made to speak powerfully. But what words we choose determine whose side we’re on.
Does our speech mirror God’s life-giving words or the death blows of the enemy?
It really is that simple. Do we speak blessings and not curses? Peace or war? Flow or resistance? Truth or a lie?
If you have been the victim of hateful speech, you may recall feeling it inside, in the deep pit of your center. Likewise, uplifting, encouraging, loving words are also felt there. That center place is your heart, the very ‘heart of you’ and the core of your being.
Speech impacts us deeply. Devastating or Healing, in the center of us, where our identity lives. It’s a fragile place, susceptible to danger. It is the place the LORD who made us says to guard above all else.
In Proverbs 4:23, we are told, “Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts.” Another version says, “Guard your heart, for out of it flow the issues of life.”
I’ve got issues – think on where that starts, from where the issues flow. Words impact our very life center. Our identity, what we believe about ourselves; who we are – decided with words.
We know well the Proverb, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” There is no wondering what this means.
Your words hold the power of life and death. We say in the most urgent situations, “It’s a matter of life and death.” Yet, do we seriously consider our words with this same urgency? The Message version of this is straight to the point.
“Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit — you choose,” Proverbs 18:21 (MSG)
You choose. (Ouch. Help me, LORD.)
The scriptures give simple direction on the matter throughout. Speak Life. Speak the Truth in Love. Declare those things that are not as though they are. sk and you shall receive…
“But I tell you, on the day of judgment men will have to give account for every idle (inoperative, nonworking) word they speak. For by your words you will be justified and acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned and sentenced,” Matthew 12:36-37.
Our speech matters. It is the final word of completion when we speak over a thing in the name of Jesus. His name and His blood ‘seal the deal’, as in Revelation 12:11 we find the word, ‘They overcame by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.’
The Blood. The Word. Jesus, The Living Word and by Him all words are given power even over death.
Completion: com·ple·tion – the action or process of finishing something. synonyms: realization, accomplishment, achievement, fulfillment, consummation, finalization, resolution.
“The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me. His Word was on my tongue,” 2 Samuel 23:2.
I heard the LORD saying,
“I have done a complete work in you from before the beginning of your earthly life, and in this I caused all things of your life to be; I spoke and they came about.
I said it, and it was and is and shall be! SPEAKING COMPLETION SEALS THE DEAL one way or the other! It causes the tides to flow and the earth to move, direction of the winds; these are all set by MY speech!”
So, when you speak, speak of these things –
Speak LIFE EVERLASTING, and it shall be for those who remain outside the covenant!
Speak JOY UNSPEAKABLE and the expressions of JOY will arise from the congregations!
Speak the urging to preach the GOOD NEWS to all you meet, and they too will share GOOD NEWS ONLY! In Praise to Me, you speak! In LOVE to Me, you sing! In worshipful conversations, I AM found there.
So, never let this thought go far from your mind, since that is where your speech begins. Remember the times you are in and know I AM in the direction of your path – every step. Knowing this is your KEY to MOVEMENT.
“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” 2 Corinthians 1:20-22 (NIV).
LORD, thank you for Your words and Your Word. Let these live in me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
