Forgiveness
Forgiveness — particularly how God applies it to the sinner — is key liberator road-map to intimacy with Christ.
Just to demonstrate how effective is God’s forgiveness, in Leviticus 16, the Levitical Priest Aaron is commanded to bring two goats before The Tent of The Meeting.
Two male goats were selected and lots were cast to determine which was for “The LORD” and which was “for the Scapegoat”
“He [Aaron] shall take the two goats and present them before The LORD at the door of The Tabernacle of Meeting. Then Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats: one lot for The LORD and the other lot for the Scapegoat. And Aaron shall bring the goat on which The LORD’s lot fell, and offer it as a sin offering. But the goat on which the lot fell to be the Scapegoat shall be presented alive before The LORD, to make atonement upon it, and to let it go as the Scapegoat into the wilderness.” Leviticus 16:7-10.
One goat is named the goat of The LORD while the second one is the Scapegoat.
The goat of The LORD was sacrificed and the blood sprinkled on The Mercy Seat as a covering for the sins.
Aaron then laid his both hands on the head of the Scapegoat transferring the sins of the people of Israel onto the goat.
This goat was then released into the desert never to return again with people’s sins. It probably was killed and devoured by beasts of the desert. It was a way of getting rid of sins from the community.
The first goat is illustration that sin is instantly forgiven at The Altar of Sacrifice and totally covered at The Mercy Seat.
No one should carry condemnation within themselves as God quickly forgives us when we genuinely come to him.
“And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against The LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.” 2 Samuel 12:13.
Secondly, the sin that is forgiven is also taken out of the sinners life and from the community.
God does not just forgive it — but he removes it and he now cannot remember your sins anymore!
“For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” Jeremiah 31:34.
“As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.” Psalm 103:12 KJV.
This is how also to Forgive!
We instantly forgive — and further — we should resist the temptation of being reminded of the sins we did, or the sins that people did to us.
We release that sin into the wilderness by the Scapegoat, by not making the sins future reference point.
No longer do we associate that sin with us or with anyone else that has sinned a against us.
Scapegoat : 1) One that is made to bear the blame of others. 2) A live goat over whose head Aaron confessed all the sins of the children of Israel on the Day of Atonement. The goat, symbolically bearing their sins, was then sent into the wilderness. 3) A goat upon whose head were symbolically placed the sins of the people, after which he was suffered to escape into the wilderness. © The American Heritage® Dictionary
