Men Who Wear Their Hats in Church
Men Who Wear Their Hats in Church — or, I might add as well men who have long hair in Church, are not honoring God and are not blessed.
Text to Study:
“….. keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you. But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in The LORD.
For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God.
Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?
Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the Churches of God.” 1 Corinthians 11:2-16.
Lately I have seen a growing trend of men who refuse to take off their Hat or Cap in Church and men with long hair.
I have seen a large increase of this, and I have seen even preachers and pastors who “preach or teach” with their hat on, and some men who appear like women — with long hair.
It may seem like I am riding an issue here in this message, for to many it is not important to speak about this at all or to even bring it up.
The modern Church has started doing many things that are contrary to Scripture, and it does not seem to bother them, matter of fact, they see it as “Popular” dress in today’s Church.
Well what does God think about it?
Is The LORD blessed and honored by men who will not remove their hat in Church, or is He offended?
I believe the latter.
Offense is on the increase in Church these days by people who respect not The LORD or his Ways, or his Scriptures.
Why is this a sin? Why is it offensive to The LORD?
Answer :
It is because the Man is the head, and therefore his Head should be clearly seen.
Of course we know that the head of every man is The LORD so to exemplify this, a man should not wear any head covering or have long hair in Church, so others who worship can clearly see the head.
The man should not look like a woman. but look like a man who is the head. But many men today are desiring to look like women.
It is the opposite for a Woman in Church, for the Scriptures tell us the woman should cover her head.
That is enough said about this at this time, it should be sufficient that Scriptures tell us a woman should have long hair or a head covering in Church. It evidently is an act of submission to her LORD.
Not long ago I attended a Church right here in Belen, NM, and took note that the head usher [one who greats and helps people find a seat and even takes up the offering, and prays publicly often ], and he is a leader in the Church.
He always wears a large Cowboy Hat in every service. He even prays with his hat on.
I asked the pastor, “Sir, should you not ask this man to take off his hat in the services?”
The pastor did nothing. He did not say anything, and only shook his head. He clearly thought I was being “Judgemental” and picky.
And so on it goes….
Today, is is even common place to see well known pastors get up in The Church with a cap on.
That indicates to me that something is wrong with the heart of that individual.
What, you may ask?
The answer is: they do not respect or honor their LORD and their heart is worldly, and they care not that it will grieve The Holy Spirit.
It could be stupidity as well….. That men wear a hat in Church, ignorance of Scriptures which speak about this matter.
And, ignorance of “Pastors” who would do it or allow it in their Worship Services.
More scripture to consider:
“And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:30.
“Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and BE CLOTHED WITH HUMILITY: for GOD RESISTETH THE PROUD, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:5-7.

Like I said, it may seem lie I am being judgmental or riding an issue, but, I have written this Correcting Word as I am led by my Holy Spirit Teacher.

I agree with showing respect in the church. Though I do think the verse needs to be studied in light of the cultural context (there are many different interpretations, so I think it’s wise not to assume someone is simply “ignorant.” I also think it’s a mistake to accuse someone or explain their heart’s reasoning: “They do not respect or honor their LORD and their heart is worldly, and they care not that it will grieve The Holy Spirit.” We cannot possible know a person’s heart and we are not supposed to be Judges over one another, nor do we want to be mini “Accusers of the brethren”, even if only correcting. Love is gentle and kind, never accusative or harsh. Paul was accused of being too weak in person, and he described himself as a nursing mother. I think readers have often have mistaken Paul’s “boldness” for harshness when in fact he was just the opposite. He showed great humility, like our heavenly Husband, Jesus. (These are just some thoughts to consider.)
This sounds rather religious to me.
Amen.
Thank you man of GoD. WeLL…Ever seen Jesus, Moses or any of His disciples depicted w/a taper fade, crew cuts, high top or mohawk…i’m jus’ sayin’- Trends seen w/some men wearing hats during a worship service, maybe fashion or something else to ‘buc’. IDK We understand the cultural traditions then and now have changed, but the reverence should remain the same.
Good grooming is always in order but undue attention to externals is the principle theme. Not so much the length of hair being judge, cultural traditions used to teach that Christ is the Head of the man. You think Paul may have seen one w/hair down to the floor..when he wrote this letter..? Remember it’s in Corinth ! w/women head coverings were also used even in pagan cultures. I agree w/you man of God that the essence of covering/s is about the inner submissiveness of Christ the Head of us ALL. Thanks for the opportunity to examine and be aware of trends…as we prepare for REvival in the Land and aroung the globe!! God bless you sir.
