I would love to start this teaching by first helping us to understand the word: ‘Ekklesia’.
Many preachers have postulated that the word Ekklesia is a spiritual word which came by Revelation, and have used it to refer to The Church, which is the translation of it to the common layman.
It is pertinent to know that, the word Ekklesia is never a spiritual term, nor a religious terminology.
Jesus used that which is common to the people of his day, to expound on His Teachings, Programs and Plans etc..
The majority of His illustrative teachings were based on the common practices and culture at that time. He always used what they knew to teach what they should know.
They were shepherds and farmers, so he used lambs, sheep, plants… to describe The Kingdom!
To use a word the people were unfamiliar with, was to stress their minds and such, would jeopardize His intentions to convey a strong Kingdom Thought!
The term Ekklesia was a term used in the ancient Greek kingdom, which was also adopted by Rome.
The word of term Ekklesia means: “A Citizens’ Assembly.”
It is a deliberative Assembly of randomly selected Citizens tasked with considering specific issues of national importance.
These people first and foremost must be Citizens from 18 years and above. They served as the conscience of the Government of the day.
They were a called-out people who occupied a higher position than the Government, and had the power to vote for and against a Government performing less than expected.
They were charged with the authority to Audit a Government in terms of corruption and corrupt practices. They were revered by all!
When the Government treats the people badly and fail in their duties, the Ekklesia was convened to look into the matter at hand and pass a judgment by a simple majority vote for or against the government, and their decision was always final!
Please note that Jesus said, “I will build ‘My’ Ekklesia….” (Matthew 16:18)
This suggested to them that, He is coming out with another Ekklesia which is named after Him, and not after the political one of his day!
The Ekklesia He is building will be a Kingdom Ekklesia whose duty it is to bring Kingdom Decrees, culture and lifestyle on the earth!
They are to be Heaven’s Gate into the Earth and be The Gatekeepers there of!
Their duty is not just to gather in one place to clap, sing, dance, share the word, collect offerings. Their duty stretches beyond these into bringing Heaven’s influence over the earth!
It is no wonder Jesus asked that the Nation’s be discipled, cultured with Kingdom Lifestyle.
He asked that we pray thus: “Thy kingdom come so that your will be done on earth as it is in heaven..” (Matthew 6:10).
When the government of the day promulgate a law that is contrary to The Kingdom, it is the duty of His Ekklesia to either allow or not!
“I give you the name Peter, a stone. And this truth of who I am will be the bedrock foundation on which I will build My Church — my Legislative Assembly, and the power of death will not be able to overpower it! I will give you The Keys of Heaven’s Kingdom realm to forbid on earth that which is forbidden in Heaven, and to release on earth that which is released in Heaven.” Matthew 16:18-20 TPT emphasis added.
When a Nation permits “gay and lesbians marriages” or any of such unholy practices, the Ekklesia counsel are to convene.
Their coming together to seat at the Areopagus (highest counsel) was dreaded even by the government of the day!
Does The Church today look like the Ekklesia Jesus said he would build?
Is not The Church today more like a trade centre? Who even fears the gathering of ourselves?
Gone seems to be the days when political leaders feared The Church for today, the story is different. They even threaten Church leadership’s with a total closure that The Churches quiver in fear!
I believe that, our king Jesus knows what he was talking about when He said, “I will build My (his) Ekklesia….” and He says what He means, as well as means what He says!
To be continued….
