Yieldedness, Discernment and the Surprise of His Goodness
On the morning of April 18, 2026, I began pondering what the “Goodness” of The LORD means.
American Heritage online dictionary has the following definitions:
- The state or quality of being good.
- The beneficial or nutritious part.
- The quality of being good in any of its various senses; excellence; virtue; kindness; benevolence.
- The state or characteristic of being good.
- The good; nutritional, healthy part or content of something.
- GOD. (emphasis added.)
- The moral qualities which constitute Christian excellence; moral virtue.
- That which is pleasing or valuable or useful.
He IS the definition of Goodness. He IS all of these things and more.
In order to navigate these days of darkness, I’ve realized that I need to ponder Him in such a way that it displaces and dispels the darkness that has entered my mind through the noise of the enemy, the noise of the internet, and the noise of the deceived.
Distraction is a tool of the enemy to keep us from encountering God.
I’ve realized that my mind and the way I think about Him, The Great I AM, determines how I approach Him, how yielded I am to His Will and Ways, and how much I allow Him to work in my life.
If I have a defensive wall up in front of Him, or am distracted by darkness, it greatly limits His ability to work in me and my life, and limits my ability to hear Him.
In this world, we need to be careful and guard ourselves and our families from those who mean us harm.
We know that darkness ALWAYS means us harm. But as we lay it all down before our King Jesus in complete surrender to His Goodness, we can let our guard down before Him and we can trust that He will direct us as we navigate, in yieldedness, the darkness we encounter in our daily lives!
That does not mean we put aside our discernment or common sense, but just the opposite; we walk yielded enough to respond immediately when an alarm of discernment goes off – even a soft one.
I cannot tell you how many times I have overlooked or ignored an alarm of The Holy Spirit, (especially about people), only to sorely regret it later.
We need to become so sensitive to His leading that He is able to direct us with His “Eye”. “I will guide you with My eye.” (Psalms 32:8)
We don’t need to demand or expect continuous warnings about the same thing, but we can trust and act on that first warning as it is given.
Of course, in some instances, we ask for confirmation in our decision-making processes, but many times I have sensed a fleeting warning about something that requires immediate action (or non-action) on my part, and then saw the fruit of that obedience just a second or two later, or even hours or days later.
I’ve realized that I need to be so sensitive to The LORD in trusting His complete Goodness towards me that I trust a fleeting, fractional-second warning more than I trust my own perception of what’s happening.
As I yield to His leading, then I am surprised and awed by His Goodness and His attention to every detail of my life.
There is the further benefit that we are less focused on ourselves and how we are feeling about every small thing, and it diverts our attention to how He IS feeling about every small thing, which then dispels the darkness that would attempt to take hold of our thought processes.
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,” 2 Corinthians 10:4-5.
“Trust in The LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6.
We are surely passing through a time of great darkness and warfare, but there is soon coming a day when we will be surprised by His Goodness toward us, and we will be truly awed by the wonder of Who He IS!
This great darkness and warfare is but the threshold as we cross over into the days of His Glory! Be encouraged!
He IS Good, and He is working all things together for the days to come! (Romans 8:28)
All Glory and Honor are His!
Love,
