Affliction and Compassion
This is for someone today.
I woke up seeing the number: 6039.
Strong’s #H6039 is the Hebrew word for affliction. Out of the entire Bible, it only occurs once in Psalm 22 — there are the twos again.
“For He has not despised nor turned from the affliction of the afflicted; neither has He hid His face from him; but when he cried out to Him, He heard.” Psalm 22:24.
This verse is how Jesus took our afflictions at the Cross, whether the affliction is physical, or mental, or emotional. (Isaiah 53)
And then I heard the Word: “Compassion!”
God’s compassion is not just pity and empathy for the suffering of someone, but even more than that, according to the Greek, God’s compassion is pity — coupled with an urgent desire to aid or to spare.
You need to know this!
Though an earthly parent, friend, or spouse may have forgotten you or lacked compassion for you, God has not forgotten you. When you cried out to Him, He heard.
Isaiah 63 says,
“In all their affliction He was afflicted, and the Angel of His Presence saved them!” Isaiah 63:9.
The Angel of His Presence is the “Angel of His Face.”
This is Jesus revealed in the Old Testament. The God of All Compassion has come tonight to help you and rescue you and deliver you from all your afflictions!
“Beloved. Can a woman forget her nursing child or lack compassion for the son of her womb?
Even if she could forget, I will not forget you, My Child.
Behold, I have engraved you on the Palms of My nail scarred Hands.
In all your afflictions, I was afflicted. As it is written, “By His wounds you are healed.”
Your cries have come before Me. Fear not, My Compassion will not fail you.
Mine is a Love that sends Help. My Passion will deliver you from your affliction.
With your cry comes the Answer at the very same moment.
It will manifest, Beloved.
The Angel of My Presence will save you. Even before a word is on your tongue, behold, I know it altogether.
I AM near to the brokenhearted — I save the crushed in spirit. Great is My faithfulness.
Many are the afflictions of My Righteous Ones, but I will deliver you from them all.”
COMPASSION : Strong’s Greek 3628: Pity, compassion, favor, grace, mercy. Compassion is not just pity and sympathy for the suffering of others, but it is coupled with an urgent desire to aid or to spare. Refers to a deep sense of compassion or mercy, with the feelings of empathy and kindness. This word emphasizes the emotional aspect of mercy, highlighting a heartfelt response to the suffering or needs of others.
ANGEL OF HIS PRESENCE (Angel of The Face) : Jesus Christ is the true ‘angel of the face.’ This indeed was a pre-manifestation of the eternal Son. All that was spoken of the Angel is true of Him. God’s name is in Him, and that not in fragments or half-syllables but complete. The face of God looks lovingly on men in Him, so that Jesus could declare, ‘He that has seen Me has seen the Father.’ His Presence brings God’s presence, and He can venture to say, ‘We will come and make our abode with Him.’ He is the agent of the divine salvation. The mystery of God’s sharing our sorrows is explained in Him. (MacLaren’s Expositions)
PSALM 22:24 : God the Father was bending, bowing down to Jesus on the Cross. Affliction, from ענה, the proper word to denote the Passion. As in Isaiah 53:4, Isaiah 53:7, the Servant of God is also said to be afflicted. With His cry came the answer at the same moment. We see that the Sufferer (Jesus) felt the wrath of God, but this has changed into a Love that sends help; God did not long keep His countenance hidden, He hearkened to Him, for His prayer was well-pleasing to Him. שSince we have the definite fact of the rescue before us, it is a pausal form for שׁמע, as in Psalm 34:7, Psalm 34:18; Jeremiah 36:13. (Keil and Delitzsch Biblical Commentary on the Old Testament)
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4.
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His compassions fail not; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23.
“Can a woman forget her nursing child, or lack compassion for the son of her womb? Even if she could forget, I will not forget you! Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are ever before Me.” Isaiah 49:15-16.
“Surely He took on our infirmities and carried our sorrows; yet we considered Him stricken by God, struck down and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:4-5.
“The LORD is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him from them all.” Psalm 34:18-19.
“Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether!” Psalm 139:4.
