Consider this story found in the Bible about Gideon:

“So Gideon built an altar to the LORD there and called it The LORD is Peace.  To this day it stands in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.  That same night the LORD said to him, “Take the second bull from your father’s herd, the one seven years old.  Tear down your father’s altar to Baal and cut down the Asherah pole beside it.  Then build a proper kind of altar to the LORD your God on the top of this height.  Using the wood of the Asherah pole that you cut down, offer the second bull as a burnt offering.”

So Gideon took ten of his servants and did as the LORD told him.  But because he was afraid of his family and the men of the town, he did it at night rather than in the daytime.  In the morning when the men of the town got up, there was Baal’s altar, demolished, with the Asherah pole beside it cut down and the second bull sacrificed on the newly built altar!

They asked each other, “Who did this?”

When they carefully investigated, they were told, “Gideon son of Joash did it.”   Judges 6:24-29

Florida pastor arrested before he could burn 2,998 Korans

A Florida pastor, Terry Jones and his assistant pastor, have been arrested and put in jail right here in America for wanting to make a religious statement of their faith to the world.  They were going to burn one copy of the Koran for each person killed in 9-11 (2,998 copies) by Muslim terrorist.  For this act they have been arrested and jailed.  Are we not supposed to be living in a country that has freedom of religion?  Are we not guaranteed by our constitution to have freedom of religion and speech?

No doubt Pastor Jones wanted to make the statement that THE KORAN IS NOT THE WORD OF GOD AND IS A FALSE RELIGIOUS BOOK.  No doubt he wanted to HOLD UP THE BIBLE, THE WORD OF GOD as the TRUTH.  Even it, this act of burning that book was a radical act….. This act most likely began with his FAITH IN GOD AND GOD’S WORD.  Does he not have this right?  Can this sort of thing not happen in America now? 

The attitude about this was indicated in the statement made by the local towns people, and I quote:  “Mulberry’s mayor, along with area elected officials, a sheriff’s deputy and several Polk County residents have talked about the need to express love and tolerance for all faiths on Sept. 11.”

It is the belief that CHRISTIANS MUST EXPRESS LOVE AND TOLERANCE for other religions that has caused many, well meaning people, to speak out in objection.  Well, my question is, WHAT DOES GOD SAY ABOUT THIS SUBJECT?  Does the Word of God say we have to avoid such extreme acts as BURNING RELIGIOUS BOOKS to make a statement?   There are those who even do not want anyone even talking about False Religion.  They are saying it is not Loving and Kind.  I believe the political phrase that is being used is POLITICAL CORRECTNESS.  If a person speaks up and makes such a statement they are really HATE CRIMES.

Well God told Gideon to go in the night and TEAR DOWN THE BAAL ALTAR AND CUT DOWN THE POLE TO ASHERAH.  God told Gideon to build a proper altar and offer a sacrifice upon it.  GIDEON OBEYED GOD and went in the night doing all under the cover of darkness….  BECAUSE HE KNEW HOW THEY WOULD FEEL ABOUT HIM TEARING DOWN THEIR SACRED ALTAR!!!.  (Was this not a very Strong and radical act commanded by God Himself?)  The next morning his act of obedience to God’s command was not taken in a good opinion with the people who erected the altar to a False God, and practiced the sexual perversion of worship in the Grove of Asherah.  These people were red hot and mad, for sure.

Was Gideon right to obey God?  Of course he was.  It was God who gave the commandment.  He would have been wrong to disobey his God.

Well that brings us to this question.  ARE WE BEING UNLOVING AND UNKIND to stand up for the WORD OF GOD AND THE LORD right here in America?  Is this showing forth hate and no love to make defensive statements and demonstrative acts… standing up for the Truth in this land?  I say it is NOT TRUE.  We are to obey the Lord first, and, if that obedience leads us to be rejected, arrested, or even jailed, then we must be ready to suffer that cost.  We would not be the first to suffer such a cost!

The fact that GOOD MEN DO NOTHING is the WORST SIN OF ALL.  If Good Men sit by and let Evil Prevail and go without confronting it, IS THAT TRUE LOVE?  If Good Men SAY NOTHING, and evil spreads among people and those people are hurt.  What about those who may believe the lie about the spirituality claimed in the Koran, IF WE DO NOT SPEAK THE TRUTH?  Will God not hold us accountable IF WE DO NOTHING TO WARN THE PEOPLE AWAY FROM FALSE RELIGION?

If you went to someones house and saw a huge rattlesnake under their bed and SAID NOTING, OR DID NOTHING… and someone got bitten and died… WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO SAY THAT WAS LOVE?  If thousands and thousands go to Hell believing the message of the Koran, turning away for Jesus Christ, their only Savior, WOULD THAT BE LOVE TO SAY NOTHING, OR DO NOTHING.  NO.. FOR SURE.  NO!!!!

Now I do not know this Pastor Jones so I do not defend him personally, but I SAY… It is FREEDOMS RIGHT to make such a statement.  And, I say, EVEN GIDEON DID HEAR GOD COMMAND HIM TO DO SUCH A THING.  Was it not even worse to BURN DOWN THEIR ALTARS???  I believe in doing this thing that God commanded Gideon to do, the TRUTH PREVAILED.  God did fight for Gideon.  If you remember the story, GOD DID WIN THE BATTLE FIGHTING IT FOR THEM!  WOW!  We want GOD TO PREVAIL…  BUT ARE WE WILLING TO OBEY GOD… EVEN IF IT IS NOT POLITICALLY CORRECT???
