When I just got baptized (after much rebellion and disobedience) I remember there was a lady who was an elder in the Pentecostal church I attended.
Her name was sister Beecher and she was like a mother to me. She gave Godly counsel and at the time I was really going through not knowing my process had begun from that point yet she never grew tired of hearing me.
There was one particular thing she said to me that I will never forget, she said in one of my counseling sessions with her:
“As as a Christian — you have to have a John Crow stomach and a Duck back!”
Anyone who’s from Jamaica knows what a John Crow is: it’s a Raven 🐦 — a bird of prey, a vulture, fearless!
And having a Duck’s Back, means nothing affects you!
Be unperturbed by criticisms, mockery, insults and hurtful words — even when they are subliminal and you recognize what they try to insinuate.
People will do and be who they are — but it’s The Holy Spirit Who will insulate you from the potential hurt and pain of other’s actions toward you and give you peace and serenity.
John 14:27 declares:
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
